Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It pretty much, by this point. The Marvel brand can pretty much sell anything at this point as long as the movie itself is watchable.
The more pressing potential stumbling block for more diverse properties is that very few female and minority characters are solo leads, and Marvel's solo films thus far have almost all been about solo characters rather than ensemble ones.

I think that they will do more team up movies in the future anyway. It is the next logical step. And they are already do it to a certain degree.
But I guess we can now be sure that Black Widow will survive Avengers 4...not that there was ever any doubt. Marvel would be crazy to kill off one of their few female heroes at this point.
The Lego sets for Infinity War have a nice Netflix easter egg
. The closest we are likely to ever get to an actual crossover.

A comic selling really well in the 2000s doesn't mean much for mass awareness
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
You know, I'm aware that Ultimate Iron Man's origin story was revised...but I'll admit, it's weird to say that this was based on that version, considering what I've seen of how they had originally envisioned that character.

Oh God! Natural light! Before the MCU really became big, I had virtually zero knowledge of comic books, and the only superheroes I had heard of were Superman, Spider-Man and Batman. So speaking for non-comic-book-fans - even characters that comic books fans consider well-known, like Iron Man or Wolverine or Captain America, were essentially obscure to the general public before superhero movies became big-time moneymakers.
Iron Man made money because people liked it and it had good word of mouth, not because the general public was aware of the the existence of a comic book character called Iron Man.

There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that's in the trailer where we're all running to battle, you know, all of us are on set and it's like forty superheroes. I look to my right and I see Tom Holland and Dave Batista. I see them in the corner and Tom is literally the size of Dave's leg, I don't know what they're talking about but Batista jumps up and does a kick-punch move and I was like 'Yo, you're about to kill him!'
Evans
That day was really fun, I know the day you're talking about, that day was [snickers]...you'll see. It was a great day with a lot of great people.
40 heroes.
“They’re going to be massive,” the 34-year-old tells Postmedia Network during an interview for this week’s fact-based war drama, 12 Strong. “I finished literally two days ago and I looked at (directors) Joe and Anthony (Russo) and said, ‘I don’t know how you guys have gotten this far and I don’t know how you’re going to hold it together and complete this thing, but my hat’s off to you.’
“This is one of the biggest things in film history and to be a part of it was just incredible. I think what these characters are about to face — with Thanos — there’s been nothing quite like it. There are 76 cast members or something like that. I think what people are going to be excited about is what I was excited about and that’s Thor meeting the Guardians and Iron Man meeting Doctor Strange.”
Also Chris Evans loves Winter Soldier suit and dislikes the Avengers suit.

For the comic or the movie (haven't read the former)?
Because if it's the former...maybe try to avoid posting spoilers here?
Oh God! Natural light!“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain”

Thanks.
None of that seems to mention reality-wiping, though. There's "inflict his twisted will on all of reality", but that's not necessarily the same thing.
Oh God! Natural light!Hmm, I don’t know...the Wasp costume seems a little too muted with its colors.
What do you guys think?
Oh God! Natural light!I mean, the suit itself looks awesome - I like it a lot better than Ant-Man's, even - it's just colored blandly.
I really want to see some clean shots of Ghost. He's - or she, in the movie's case, which I'm pretty jazzed about - got one of my favorite designs, at least among Iron Man's Rogues Gallery.

Thus said...there is a good chance that in Marvel's hands the X-men will end up the diverse property it should be.
