Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Frankly, I hope that they are currently slowly building up to them.
As for female-led films:
-Black Widow (obviously). -A Valkyrie film and/or that female-led team film that Tessa Thompson pitched to Feige (call it whatever you like). -Some of the female X-Men characters (once that deal goes through). -Angela (bonus points for having an LGBT character in the MCU there). -Etc.
There's a decent start. But yeah, they cannot just make Captain Marvel films and then say that they're done. That'd be a good start, but more is needed afterwards.
Probably putting the cart before the horse, but I think there's plenty of X-Women who could hold a movie as well, in addition to films like Black Widow, Valkyrie, a Wasp solo, etc.
Not sure how many of these could be made right off the cuff, but for example:
- Rogue (hopefully guest-starring Captain Marvel?)
- Storm
- Jean Grey (either truly solo or with Cyclops as a supporting character, with the rest of the X-Men as either minor players or not present at all; admittedly, Cyclops being in there might be seen as undercutting the intent, but I feel like the relationship is an important part of Jean Grey's character, and even if you don't have him in the first movie he should at least be a deuteragonist in prospective sequels)
- Jubilee (kind of a cheat, because I really want a Jubilee/Wolverine buddy movie, but I think you can still make the movie clearly about Jubilee and god knows she deserves SOMETHING after Apocalypse)
-X-23 (themes of growing up, escaping your past, trying to get out of the same cycle of violence that Logan is stuck in, self-loathing issues, etc. Lots of potential there).
-Psylock (some awesome trippy psychic ninja martial arts film).
-Storm (themes of environmentalism, mystical stuff, bonus points for having another POC hero, etc).
-Domino (fun heist film).
-Etc.
Lots of possibilities.
Valkyrie, Jessica Drew, She-Hulk, Ms Marvel, Gwenpool, Monica Rambeau, and let Jessica Jones be the first Netflix character to cross over into the movies. Do it.
And this won't happen, but I'd like a spiritual adaptation of Excalibur that's really more of a solo movie for Kitty Pryde.

I used to feel the same way, but I'm rapidly getting sick of X-Team movies after how Fox has shoved most characters to the side in favor of a few of the "most popular". And even though I have little doubt that Marvel would handle it better, keeping them relegated to team movies would still likely trend towards the formula of "oh, now this movie this character and this character are in the spotlight". And that works relatively well for the Avengers, but to be fair a lot of the Avengers are getting solo movies/enough background appearances between films to keep them in the spotlight.
Plus some X-Men just lend themselves to movie ideas that I really want to see. For instance, breaking away from female-led films for a moment: Nightcrawler swashbuckling action-adventure film. Let the money roll in.

Oh yeah, no, I don't want spinoffs happening out of the gate. Team movies are fine, but I think some of the more prominent characters should also get solo films, because quite a few of them lend themselves to awesome ideas that don't necessarily warrant slapping the "X-Men" label on it.

Valkyrie: -kicks open the door- "I REQUIRE LEGAL REPRESENTATION"
Jen Walters: -sighs-
Actually, if they did Val's Girls Behind Bars story from Defenders, she would need legal representation.
DO EET.
Any character can theoretically headline their own solo movie if you put enough work into it. Doesn't mean that's the best use of your resources.
What I'd do with the X-Men is have Storm appear first as a supporting character in, say, an Avengers or Black Panther movie, and in the post-credits scene she's approached by Professor X doing his own version of Nick Fury's Avengers Initiative pitch, leading in to the first MCU X-Men movie.
For some reason I pictured the all female team-up ending up like a female superpowered take on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
She-Hulk: "I wouldn't know, your honor. I'm not an executioner. I'm just the best goddamn gamma lawyer in the world."
"All you Fascists bound to lose."No matter what they do with the X-men (I still want them in their own world), what they should do is making X-men movies and put the focus on someone else in each movie. Meaning the Rogue or Storm or Jean Grey all can/could lead an X-men movie, but with the rest of the team present. The problem with the Fox X-men movies was always that they keep focussing on Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto - and later on Mystique - with everyone else being constantly shoved aside or outright nerfed on their behalf.
I can actually see The Wasp headlining a movie, even without Ant-man. Oh, and you know what they could also do once they have all the Fox rights? Do a Savage Land movie and make Shanna the main character instead of Ka-Zar. And give her a less skimpy outfit and a less convoluted backstory. Point is, it wouldn't matter who is the actual star in this movie because, well, people would watch it to see all those strange creatures anyway, but you could easily use a female character as protagonist. Maybe make her an actual native of the Savage land which learned about the rest of the Earth from some sort of explorer, instead of going the whole "white baby gets abducted and grows up to become a hero in some wilderness" route.
There's going to be a special charity screening of Black Panther for inner city youth
. That's pretty awesome of the guy who organized it.

You suggested a Silver Surfer trilogy last page, but I have to disagree with how you suggested it go. To me, Silver Surfer is at his most interesting after he's broken free of Galactus and has to deal with his actions and find a purpose in a universe that must absolutely hate him. Hell, have him go back to his home planet, only to realize that it's been centuries since he left and Norrin Radd has gone down in the history books as a hero to some and a villain to others for saving their planet but helping Galactus eat other planets. Silver Surfer should break free of Galactus either in his first movie or in his introduction in a Fantastic 4 movie.
