Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah. I suppose characters like Quake and Kamala will be ok...hopefully.
They never did much with the Royal Family until this stupid push, and all that's done is ensure that no one will ever want to touch them ever again. I don't know what the over all opinion on the characters were before, but they are essentially pretty much radioactive now for all the shit they've pulled during their big push.
One Strip! One Strip! For the record, the Inhuman royal family banned slavery ages ago in the comics although Gorgon wants to bring it back and they were guilted into it in the first place to stop Maximus from weaponizing the resentment
The relationship between Alpha Primitives and other Inhumans still has its problems but that's kind of an issue of glass houses
I don't know why in a modern incarnation Buck decided that needed to be a thing but there we are
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's because Scott Buck is an idiot who loves stories about powerful cishet white dumbasses dominating people that are supposed to be "weaker" or "inferior". Iron Fist is the adventures of the dumbass mighty whitey and Inhumans is the struggle of the rich slave owning one percent.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Its a shame that the Inhumans show was so terrible.
I really like the Inhumans in Agents of SHIELD where they're better mutants than mutants would have been.
If anything, a show focused on the Inhumans royal family should have been, like many people have said, court drama with sillier costumes and superpowers. The best Inhumans I've ever read is where they take over the Kree. I don't think they could have used that particular story because they have different plans for the Kree in the MCU but definitely the feel of it. The moral compromises of ruling. The Royal Family's different ideas and how they clash with each other. Crystal and Ronan being politically married but developing real feelings for each other. It was good stuff.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers"'Who drops a ton of terrigen into the fucking ocean?' is what Black Bolt just asked incredulously by raising an eyebrow slightly"
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey obviously didn't have the budget to focus completely on an entire society where everyone has superpowers, not with Scott Buck at the helm. They had trouble showing anyone had superpowers at all even once an episode.
And there might have been a cool show to be made about focusing in on some version of Attilan other than the one we saw, but I think spending a whole season there plays into that tendency of superhero shows and movies to assume the origin is the most interesting part of the characters and needs to be extended. Stay in Attilan, sure, but still show how Attilan is not purely an island, how Trident's excursion to Earth is part of a larger program to help bring the newfound Inhuman population into the fold. Jiaying and Afterlife already established that there were still pockets of Inhumans still living on Earth. Use that, show the history of prosecution from that angle, let them really be the X-Men and take action in heroic fashion to save a world that hates them from Inhuman-centric and/or otherworldly threats.
What about something where the Inhuman Royal Family heads to Earth because, seeing the increasing Inhuman population, they plan to infiltrate and conquer the planet to protect Inhumankind, but as they spent time among the humans they have a Heel Realization and end up turning against their own society?
Sort of a combination of The Americans, V (1983), and 3rd Rock from the Sun.

In other news:
- Captain Marvel nets Ben Davis as its cinematographer.
- And it's looking like Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 might feature another certain
flame of Peter's...

She better fucking live this time.
Before I actually realized how bad it was (still think Electro was awesome), the only issue I had with Amazing 2 was killing Gwen.
For years, it was her real superpower, and that's a pretty shitty superpower.
One Strip! One Strip!Gwen Stacy was amazing in Spectacular Spider-Man and she was amazing in the Amazing films. The adaptations have made her into a fantastic and much-beloved character, which is why I hope that if she is going to show up, Homecoming will have the good sense not to kill her off.
The Night Gwen Stacy Died is fondly remembered by fans for shaking up the status quo in a way that just wasn't done in superhero comics. But now it's done in superhero comics. It's done way too much in superhero comics. By today's standard, it's the one fridging to rule them all, and it must be cast into Mount F*ck You and done away with as soon as possible.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.No. Spider Man, Spider Gwen and SPIDER MAN in some big event.
....I do feel sorry for MJ though. After being Peter's wife for years, they sure are grabbing a big bus to throw her under media wise.
Because as funny as Michelle was, she is NOT MJ.
One Strip! One Strip!

Glad to have the mutants back, though I do feel sorry for the Inhumans.
They were pushed into a role that didn't in anyway suit them over a group that others already liked far more to satisfy the whims of a extremely petty man.
Now the other group is back, and that failed push for Inhumans has basically ensured that they will probably disappear into the ether of marvel history. Which is a shame, because while the group has always had issues (they did actively practice slavery and all), there was probably always some potential for them, but no one ever did anything with them, and when they did start doing something, as it often the case, they did it in a really dumb way that didn't help them.
Hell, the parallels between Mutants and Inhumans are quite great (with each group arguably showing what the other could be if they took a specific course of action: attempted integration and isolation respectively).
But now mutants are back (and I'm glad cause the universe is a little more complete now) so fuck Inhumans.
...they really should have fixed that slavery thing. Why did nobody have the Royal Family abolish that?
One Strip! One Strip!
