Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

rollin' on dubs
Yes they are. From "eye beams" to weather effects, the X-men cartoon was easy to make. Now FOX tried a live action New Mutants/X-force series in The '90s and the pilot flopped. So much money was spent on SFX of the era that the actors were D and C list nobodies except for the actress who played Emma Frost and even I can remember who that was.
Marvel/Disney will wait until the merger is complete and then start with a reboot. As even Movie Bob pointed out "I am Professor Charles Xavier and welcome to my school" was Harry Potter-esque note decades before J.K. Rowling even put pen to paper.
I tried to walk like an Egyptian and now I need to see a Cairo practor....
rollin' on dubs
I think Inhumans demonstrated that some of these properties are too big to try and do on a TV budget. Both The Gifted and Legion are very good (they're two of the best comic book shows on TV right now) but neither template would make for a satisfying X-Men TV show, and they both have some very obvious budget constraints.

I think what comicwriter meant to say was...
TL;DR:
- Everything everyone was saying Disney will acquire from Fox is indeed acquired by Disney.
- The PR explicitly mentions the X-Men and Deadpool.
- Weirdly enough, it also mentions the Fantastic Four...maybe the whole thing with Constantin Film will be a cinch?
Again, don't expect to see the X-Men or the Silver Surfer in Infinity War or Avengers 4. But at the same time, don't be surprised if Phase 4 (or whatever they're calling it) will feature our favorite mutants or our favorite First Family.
Still think that they could do the opposite of what the MCU did so far. They could start with the school (and frankly, I don't care how Harry Potteresque it is, there is always room for another magic school), and then do the big action movies featuring the most powerful X-men, like Rogue, Storm aso. All they have to do is to cast adult actors who can carry a movie and are ready to sign a contract along the line to compliment the teen actors who play the students.
Oh, well, whatever they do, they should sort it out.
So, I opened a separate discussions for those who care about more than the impact on the Marvel properties. Otherwise we might go too off-topic here.
Also, the F4 are made for the big screen. The problem was always that the people making those movies thought that the F4 are a group of Superheroes when they are actually a family of explorers.
More X-Academy stuff is always welcome.
And is a orange rock-man suit really so hard to pull off? It'll probably look more like foam rubber than living rock, but I can think of worse problems for a show to have. Like blowing their whole budget on CG that still looks terrible. At least with a suit you can learn how to light it, touch it up as the show goes on. With CG, you're basically starting from scratch every time the camera angle changes.
On the Fantastic Four thing, from the sounds of it Disney is buying 21st Century Fox the corporation (excepting a few properties that will be spun off as their own corporate entity). So Constantine's existing deal with 21st Century Fox will likely continue as is for the time being. It's just that now 21st Century Fox is owned by Disney, which means Disney can use the Fantastic Four characters.
Disney is now open to the possibility of R-rated Marvel films
. Bob Iger specifically says he wants to keep making Deadpool sequels.

Speaking of timing, I doubt that this will change anything about the current line-up. Marvel will want to wait until every legal hurdle has been taken before they start to film anything, and Disney will certainly not just throw out next years schedule. Though the Gambit movie should be dead now.
My guess is that they won't do anything with the X-men rights just yet, but will start to work on a Silver Surfer origin movie for phase 4. And no, I am not just saying this because I really want this movie. I say this because this is the perfect property to dip your toe in. It's set light-years away from the earth, so no impact to or from Avengers 4, it won't need any of the actors currently busy filming Avengers 4, it wouldn't reveal anything about Avengers 4 and should it fail, well, it won't matter.
With the x-men I guess they will wait how next year goes before they make a decision.
Btw...what if they create an X-men verse for their streaming service? I mean, most of the x-men powers are not that hard to put on screen, right?
