Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think it's weird that Fox made Mystique Xavier's adopted sibling when that's usually Juggernaut's role. I'm not too familiar with the comics, specifically how Cain and Xavier's relationship is, but I always kind of liked the idea of exploring their sibling relationship. Also, Juggernaut is a boring nothingburger of a villain without that relationship (as X3 showed) while Mystique already has ties to a bunch of other characters.

Y'know... Mystique would make a pretty fun villain for a Black Widow movie. But mostly because I have this perception of her comics incarnation as being Marvel's Revolver Ocelot.

Apparently the X-Men may come to the MCU but Fantastic Four is not gonna be there because Constatin Films own film rights Fox only owns 2005, 2007 and 2015 distribution rights:
Zounds! Maybe we'll get a true successor to 1994's Fantastic Four! Oh boy!
Re People liking this version of the X-men: I liked the Garfield version of Spider-man too, and I would have loved to see at least a proper conclusion to his movies. I still didn't whine around when the deal was struck and Disney recast. Because it was logical. It is the same way here. Plus, what are people actually liking about the current X-men? Certainly not Mystique. They are all about Wolverine (whose actor has retired anyway), Magneto and Professor X (who already have been replaced). This is the perfect moment to reboot the whole thing. Well, except Deadpool.
Re Constantin film: I addressed that a while back. I am not quite clear if the studio is still involved or not, but if it is, I doubt that it will be much of a problem. The studio has given up on the international market years ago and have focussed on movies aiming and the Germans. Pretty successfully I might add. Remember the movie series I mentioned a few pages back, the one which outgrossed Thor Ragnarok in Germany? Fack ju Göhte happens to be a Constantin film production. So even if they have any say about who produces those movies, they would most likely just allow Disney to do it in exchange for a cut anyway.
Plus, the question is how those contracts are designed. A few years back Feige was ready to leave the Daredevil rights with Fox in exchange for the Cosmic stuff attached to the Fantastic 4. Not even for the Fantastic 4 themselves, just for the Silver Surfer and Co. I would be very surprised if not the first movie which is announced for Phase 4 is a Silver Surfer movie.

Well, that movie did still a better job to capture what the characters are actually about than the other ones. So it would be an improvement.

RE: Constantin Film: Admittedly, this is annoying, but I wouldn't be surprised if either:
- Disney and Marvel work with Constantin on future F4 movies...
- ...Or Constantin Film decides to screw everything and just let the F4 rights lapse back to Marvel in the future or just give it to them without waiting for the rights to lapse.
Besides, it's not like Constantin Film has any plan for Marvel's First Family, right? ...Unless the F4 are significantly popular in Germany?
They aren't. Constantin bought the rights when they were still competing internationally...I mean, they have produced some really successful movies over the years, The Neverending Story, A fistful of Dollars, Dance with Wolves, Seven, The Sixth Sense aso. But since they have their own production Gmb H for German movies, they did arguably better. I mean, would you prefer to be the producer of Der Untergang (downfall), or the studio which happens to be listed as co-producer of Fantfourstic?
I doubt that they will let them lapse. I bet they strike a deal which gives them the distribution rights for the German or the European market. Which would most likely mean that Disney wouldn't put priority on Fantastic 4 properties, but then, the most money is made in the US and in Asia anyway.....

Well, I finish seeing Guardians of the Galaxyand I most said....I put Ego in my top five Marvel villians, beating Winter soldier Hydra(Which was good but it was mostly by team effort), Loki(who switch to much to be consider a villian) and Zemo(Who I feel is overated and focus to damn much making the team feel sad), he is powerfull, amoral and yet personal, I find him the stronger villian so far in phase 3.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Yet another update on the Disney/Fox deal:
Allegedly, it's going to close *this* Thursday, as in 2 days from now.
Like someone said, there's still the matter of the Department of Justice and the FCC, so just continue to keep your pants on and don't bring out the champagne just yet.

I tend to agree. I have little doubt that no Marvel villain will manage to stay under the 1.2 I just gave Malekith (other than perhaps Diamondback or the hand in general, but I guess even they will manage to gather more points when I finally get to them), but the top slot, that will be a harder fight. And Ego is a strong contender for sure. No villain ever has made me hate him that visceral. He even beat Umbridge in this regard.
I wouldn't worry too much about that either. If the Warner Bros. deal goes through, this one should pass easily. Especially under the current circumstances. Plus, even if the government weren't is disarray, I don't see anything truly objectionable about this deal under the current law. But then, I hardly know every relevant paragraph. But Disney has some of the best lawyers around, they will find a loophole if they must.

Because there are people who like these version? Some characters are actually improvements over their comic counterparts. Because let’s face it, the X-Men weren’t good until the Phoenix Saga.
Movie Marvel Girl>Comic Marvel Girl
