Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up] Not really surprise. None of Bryan Singer's films have a poor track record on female characters. He just want to focus on the male.

Speaking of bashing Fox's X-Men, I hope that we have an adaptation of DOFP that actually focus on Shadowcat. The film's insistent to be the First Class's show is just irritating.

You mean the wolverine show. That's the reason I like First Class the best, at least there is no Wolverine annoying me.

Well, Kevin Feige was producer on Wolverine & The X-Men which also replaced Kitty and focused on Wolverine.

[up] Yes, but that is pretty early in this career and it is difficult to tell how much say he had - aside from ensuring that Wolverine had proper Wolverine hair. We know what Feige is able to do when you just let him do what he wants based on Civil War, Doctor Strange, Got G Vol 2 and Thor Ragnaroc. I would say he got this, mostly.

Btw, Jean becoming Phoenix doesn’t need much build-up. Considering it happened only 10 issues into the Claremont run.

[up] Yes, Jean becomes Phoenix doesn't need build up, but she become Dark Phoenix absolutely does.

So according to the merch, Killmonger's name is actually Erik Stevens in this version, rather than Erik Killmonger.

Probably easier to get through airports that way.

[up][up] Sort of? I think he's just supposed to be in Jessica's head. Probably for the best.

I feel like Erik Stevens is a name that actually has existed in the Marvel universe somewhere.

I think we've seen that photo before, haven't we?

At the very least, we've known David Tennant is reprising his role for a while now. Probably as a hallucination lingering in her head, unless the Hand got ahold of his body somehow. Broken neck doesn't count as decapitation, right?

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

We know that (one of) this season's villain(s) is Typhoid Mary, who is psychic and legitimately mentally ill, so 'hallucination: your greatest fear' strikes me as fairly likely.

I'm also strongly leaning towards "hallucination".

It's good to see that we'll be getting more David Tennant all the same.

I mean, I know this'll be a hallucination but that ain't lettin' me feel less terrified about the prospect of Killgrave returning in any form whatsoever. Dude was creepy.

Rogue became an idiot in Last Stand

How? Because she wanted to touch people without killing them?

I mean, I know that movie has problems, but Rogue taking the cure and not being demonized for it wasn't one of them.
