Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Captain Marvel film is taking place during the 90's. Seems like a character origin film to explain who she is when she shows up at the end of IW.
And Ant-Man and the Wasp seems that it'll take place in the Quantum Realm during IW. They'll probably be made aware of what's happening at the end of the movie.
So Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp are "the Calvary Arrives" characters.
And possibly Adam Warlock if this film pulls a Vision on us and have him debut in this film, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 dealing with the Universial Church of Truth and its leader the Magus (Adam’s future evil self).
Not sure about the tv characters though. Since Agents of SHIELD (which is the definitely in the same universe) hardly ever interacted with the main heroes but may give Quake, Ghost Rider and if possible Phil, the Netflix Series (which is kind of in the same universe) might not appear but it would be cool to have Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica get involve since canonically they are Avengers (Daredevil is still kinda sort of dead and Punisher is doing his own thing . . . so much for having the heroes from the best Netflix series). and Inhumans . . fuck em (I would of like to see Crystal and Lockjaw join but considering how bad the show is I say they stay out of this).
"Introducing" Luke, Jessica, etc to the film universes by having there being setpieces of attacks across NY and scenes of individuals - including the Netflix characters - fighting back amongst others wouldn't be such a bad idea. As they don't steal the show, easing them in with cameos would work.
The Agents of SHIELD characters would be practically effortless to introduce, though. Ultron made it clear to the moviegoing audience that SHIELD still exists - mostly to back up the Avengers - and any of the main characters (sans Coulson), gifted or not, could be introduced as people trusted by Fury.

Here is my theory (mind you, theory, but based on the trailer and what we have seen in the movies so far, so maybe I might hit the mark with some of my ideas):
The movie starts with Thanos stealing the powerstone from Xandar, which prompts the Nova Corps to send the Got G after him (or they follow on their own). Thanos discovers the Asguadian ship and attacks due to wanting the Infinity stone, which leads to the first big fight. It ends with Thor being pushed into space and Loki reacting by using the space stone to send Hulk to earth (so that he can warn Doctor strange) and pulling off an elaborate trick to convince Thanos that he has killed everyone on the ship already. Thanos gets the space stone and Loki, Heimdal ends up alone on the ship, now having to lead the Asguardians to earth.
Meanwhile Thor falls through space and ends up smashing against the Milano. Upon learning that most of the other infinity stones are on Earth, Peter is even more determined to catch up with Thanos. Thanos on the other hand gotten from Loki the information where the reality stone, the time stone and the mind stone are located (he naturally only wanted to know where the mind stone is, but Loki had more information in store). He uses the space stone to send his helpers to New York (where the time stone is) with the task to get it and figure out where the mind stone ended up, and travels to Knowwhere to fetch the reality stone.
Anyway after a number of fights (during which Tony decides to finally use the phone and calls for help), Thanos has all infinity stones but one, and the last movie will be about finding a way to stop him once and for all.
About characters dying: I am not sure if anyone dies this movie, but if it happens, it has to be a permanent death.
It would be idiotic to kill Peter...even if there is a resurrection down the line, it has to be a character we would at least believe could stay dead. And that is pretty much everyone BUT Peter, because we already know that there is another Spider-man movie with him scheduled for Phase 4. Though Black Panther and Doctor Strange should be save for similar reasons. Nobody would buy that they already kill of their big franchise starters.

It does matter because it is the first indicator for box office and is a GREAT way to shut everyone blabbering around about "superhero fatigue".
Marvel put a lot of money in Avengers 3 and 4, they need to crack the billion mark with both of them so that this pays off. And if it doesn't we wont get to see a movie of this scale anytime soon.
They've already said Adam won't be in the movie, and honestly, it makes little sense to have him here in the first place. He played a major role in the comic version because he's Thanos' Arch-Nemesis, and thus had the necessary experience with him to formulate a plan to help the heroes take him down. The MCU Adam is basically a newborn and likely has no connection to Thanos.
Speaking of Spiderman,do you think they'll ever attempt to do something like the Clone Saga?

I can't believe all of this is going down, and this is only gonna be one half of this finale to the current MCU. What will happen in the second half is what I'm curious about...
