Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Thanos Kool-Aids through the entire planet.
The Power one sorta does. The Tesseract and the Eye are both other things dolled up to be Infinity Stones, and I've got no idea what the Reality Stone's deal is. Maybe pure reality energy can't be contained in a solid form or something. Or maybe way back when, Odin got really plastered and willed it into a liquid shape so he could dump it into his mead.

The Reality Gem became a gemstone after Malekith's defeat and I think Thor's vision suggested that the Tesseract, like Loki's staff or the Power Gem's sphere, is a shell meant to house the incredible power within rather than the actual physical Gem itself. The same is likely true of the Eye of Agamotto.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.You can bet that the moment Thanos wants to put them all together, they'll all cosmically shift into the shape of the Stones for convenience's sake.
We see their pure, unrefined forms during The Collector's infodump about them
in the first Guardians movie, and they were definitely solid at first, so evidently something happened to them (

The Reality Stone can condense into a solid, gem state, and Thor's little vision in Age of Ultron suggests that the Tesseract is actually a container with a normal-sized gemstone inside.
The Eye of Agamotto is pretty obviously a container as well, with the gemstone itself as the little green core thing.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I recall previously applying flavors to the stones in this thread.
Time-Out Tangerine, Powerful Pineapple, Spaced-Out Strawberry, Reality-Check Raspberry, Mind-Blowing Mango, and Soulful Soursop.
No, the colors don't line up at all except for Reality-Check Raspberry. That's the power of Infinity Stones... and food coloring.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Eh, I address Colleen's role in the Defenders when the show is over...I'll say that, though: When I first watched this particular episode, I was kind of p... off because I though that they just gave Colleen an injury in order to side-line her for the rest of the show. And that wasn't by far the only thing which upset me when it comes to handling the female characters. Trish for example has trained to fight for ages - I would say that in a way she is a better fighter than Jessica, because she doesn't rely on strength alone - and they didn't even allow her to try to defend herself. I wouldn't have minded her loosing a fight against a hand ninja, but that she didn't even try to do anything and instead did this stupid "crouching on the floor looking desperate" gesture REALLY grated me.
Then there is the scene in the break room...apparently Foggy doesn't even remember Claire, either that or he is extremely rude to not even greet her. But that is a rant for another day I guess.....
Anyway, on top of what bothers me about the contrived plot and characters just acting stupid in The Defenders in general, this particular episode is kind of dismissive towards its female characters. Colleen in general though, doesn't really deserve that much scorn. Because I actually think that after Jessica and Trish (who are just all kind of awesome), Colleen is the best realized of the female characters in the Netflix shows. And yes, that includes Claire. I love Claire, but she is a supporting character in every sense of the world, her roles is always to support the main character and the decision she makes always happen in order to move her wherever she has to turn up next. Colleen's struggle with coming to terms what the hand actually is and that she finds the strength to take a stance against it, that is an actual arc she has on her own. And yes her relationship with Danny is messy and often immature, but that is the point. Claire stated it outright that Colleen and Danny using each other for emotional support while both being an absolute emotional mess is not a good thing. They will either have to grow up in their relationship, or they will eventually have to break it up before they hurt each other outright.
Also Colleen is perfectly capable of making her own plans and decisions. That she goes with Danny Hand hunting has a lot to do with her being an adrenaline junky and actually enjoying the more brutal and bloody aspect of fighting, she is not just into it for Danny.
Yikes. Disney has refused to provide advance screenings for the LA Times’s movie critics
, not liking the paper’s coverage of its finances.
So that’s why there was no Thor Ragnarok review from them yet.
In regards to potential sexism in IF, I would be willing to chalk Colleen's problematic writing to just being incompetence of the writers for that particular character.
EXCEPT, then we have Joy. Oh Joy, Joy, Joy, how I've ranted on how you were used, or should I say underused, as well. 98% of her storyline in Season 1 was about how the MEN in her life undervalued her and shut her out (both intentionally and by general cluelessness) of pretty much all important plotlines and decisions. WARD got to know his daddy was alive, but not her for example. That's was face-palming.
Yeah do I think that it's intentional sexism by the creators, no not really. But when BOTH of the most prominent women on the show are completely defined by the men in their lives, and said men constantly treat them like they cannot make decisions on their own (when they bother to include them at all), it's not a good look for the show.
Except that the way Joy was robbed of her own agenda was a major plot point in the show. See, if they hadn't done the scene between Joy and Ward where they are sitting on the bench and Joy is talking about what her position in the company means to her and why, I would agree with you. But the scene is there and the show spends enough time on Joy and her motivations as well as making the revelation how much is kept from her and how much of her live was manipulated a major turning point for her character, that I actually really enjoy Joy as a character. Granted, a lot depends on what the writers will do with her character now...if they will do what I think they will do, it will be absolutely brilliant. But if the last scene with Joy was actually meant to be taken serious and not just a clever misdirect, then they really dropped the ball with her.
On a completely different topic, I just remembered that Peter Dinklage is supposed to be in Infinity War and while not confirmed, it seems fairly likely he'll be Pip the Troll. I was looking him up on The Other Wiki, and while hopefully they'll drop the Unfortunate Implications of his backstory, he's a cool character and I'm surprised how major of a character he is and kind of surprised he's first appearing in this movie instead of say Guardians 3 (which I assume will be a thing), since he's paired with Adam Warlock.
Also, it's kind of weird because I'm really annoyed by how Marvel generally treats all magic as some form of technology, but I find it cool how the Asgardian movies and characters weirdly connect with the Guardians/"cosmic" movies and characters.

The composer of Ragnarok talks about fixing Marvel's music problem
.
I gotta say Ragnarok easily had the best score I've heard of most of the MCU films. Iron Man 1 and Guardians 2 are the only other ones that comes close.

Leaving the Got G movies aside, personally I like the soundtacks of The First Avenger and The Winter Soldier the best, especially the way they compliment each other....and The Avenger theme is actually all kind of amazing, Marvel just needs to use it more in their marketing.

So basically what I'm getting is that Thanos is gonna punch his fist through Vision's head to rip out the Mind Stone and shout "OH YEAH".
