Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yes, as a gag, but nobody ever reacted to it that we can see. Even Agents of SHIELD completely ignored its presence in an episode that mentioned the cleanup of Dark World (granted, it was a Red Skies Crossover), which makes me think it was ultimately more Rule of Funny.
I'd like to think he went to college to study law. He might be a monster but darn it he's going to make his mark on the world.
This song needs more love. Why would you have to assume that? It's a neat idea, but not much more than that.
Like, I have the headcanon that the 60's Captain America series exists in-universe in the MCU as an ode to a historical hero, a la Disney's Davy Crockett series in this universe. It's something that makes sense for the universe as we see it, but it's also not supported by anything in-universe so it's just an idea.

It's funny because I don't think it's been addressed in the movies how much the public actually knows about the Avengers. Sam immediately recognizes Steve when they first meet in The Winter Soldier and is already aware he was frozen and then thawed out, so presumably that was well documented. And I think some of the Avengers have their full names mentioned on the news in Civil War, so presumably their identities are public. And of course everyone knows Tony Stark.
But beyond that I'm not sure how much info about them is public record.
If Wanda's full name can be mentioned on live TV, then I'm sure at least some of it is public knowledge.
Plus, SHIELD's database was leaked online, so...
Oh God! Natural light!Considering that Natasha released the Shield files to the public, more or less everything. Cap has his whole live in a museum anyway and Tony has always been more or less a public figure (though I do wonder if the truth about Stane was also in those files). Question is more how much about Ultron became public.
Plus, they threw that huge party in Age of Ultron. No way did Thor spend several hours mingling there without getting a bunch of, "So are you really a Norse god?"
I'm disappointed to hear that at no point during Iron Fist or The Defenders did someone casually reference the existence of alien invaders, Norse gods, and giant green rage monsters, causing Danny (who's been in K'un Lun for the last fifteen years) to go, "What?"
- Danny: What the hell am I watching?
- Colleen: Battle of New York.
- Danny: And this is on the Twitter channel?
- Colleen: You Tube.
- Danny: And what movie did you say this was?
- Colleen: This isn't a movie. This actually happened.
- Danny: No, it didn't.
- Colleen: Seriously, this happened.
- Danny: That big green guy just stopped the alien dragon worm by punching it really hard on the face. This is a movie.
- Colleen: That's the Hulk. That's what his punches do.
- Danny: ...
- Colleen: What?
- Danny: Nothing. I don't want to talk about it.
- Colleen: Feeling inadequate. Gotcha.
- Danny Rand: THIS is what Legend of Zelda looks like now?!
- Peter Quill: I know, right?!
- Steve Rogers: What's a Zelda?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That awkward moment where you realize that Peter "I forgot you were here!" Quill treats women with more respect than Danny Rand.
They both have difficulty taking "no" for an answer but at least Quill listens when Gamora talks. At least, when he's not distracted by how cool his dad is.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The MCU has so many Fish out of Temporal Water characters.
True. Quill does seem to have more Character Development than Danny does, that's for sure.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.So this was an interesting read
from Noelle Stevenson, talking about why she loves the first Thor movie. It sticks out to me because on the wider net and this forum, Thor is generally considered the most generic of the Marvel films, but here she talks about some ways she sees it as refreshingly subversive, So it's a neat thing to read and think over.
Noelle's pretty great, and she wrote for Thor Annual in 2015! I met her last weekend at a comic story party for her girlfriend's new book and we talked for a long while about her comics and favorite influences.
And if you wanted to send some money her way, you could at the bottom of her webpage here
; her car recently got vandalized
by bigoted jack***es who slashed the tires and scrawled slurs. :(

I actually really enjoy the Shakespearean aspect in the first Thor. I just wish that the Thor arc were as strong as the Loki arc. Still, this is actually a Marvel movie I appreciate more and more with passing time, just for the scenes between Loki and Odin. I certainly don't agree with the notion that it is a bottom movie....I see it more as a middle tier movie.
Stevenson's perspective was interesting to read, but I still don't really like the film much. Without Loki and the Asgard drama it would have nothing really going for it, and the Earth stuff really drags it down.
Then again, I haven't seen it in a long time, I guess because I just found it so offensively mediocre that I was in no hurry to watch it again.

But Loki and his drama IS part of the movie. And it is not like the Thor part of the story is outright bad, it just needed a few tweaks (ie removing Selvig from the story). So you end up with a movie which is half mediocre but half really outstanding. And I know that it is fashionable to hate on Loki's popularity, but his backstory is a stroke of genius imho. Internalized Racism is a pretty good motivation for a villain.
RE: Noelle Stevenson: I keep hearing good things about Lumberjanes and Nimona.
...the things some people vaguely human-like creatures do to actual human beings.
I'm willing to bet whoever was the a-hole who did that, they're just miserable little nobodies who are jealous because awesome people like Noelle are doing stuff that they haven't due to cowardice or from loafing around.
The tire-slashing vandalizers should follow Bernadette's advice:
And Noelle should follow Bernie's other piece of advice:

Didn't Dark World leave a giant ice monster from Jotunheim on Earth?
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
