Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Even in only Avengers itself it's made pretty clear he's a common link between the Avengers
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe impression I got from other people's reactions was that he was supposed to be this Ensemble Dark Horse character prior to the movie, and killing him was supposed to be this big thing that affects the audience. But I didn't think anything of his character in the previous movies, not enough to remember him or care about him, so I was confused about the film placing so much importance on him dying.
Then again, I'm not really a big fan of the first Avengers film in general.
Huh, the Thor Ragnarok director wants to make a Black Widow film... as a comedy. https://www.cbr.com/taika-waititi-black-widow-film-comedy/
EDIT: The Coulson thing reminds me of a YA book I read called All The Feels about a fan's successful quest to prove their favorite character didn't actually die and force continuations of the story. It was inspired by the #BringBackColuson thing, which a friend of the author's started and successfully got to work all because they refused to accept he was dead XD

The Protomen enhanced my life.Seems like they might be reading into it a little? There's something of a difference between a movie with comedic elements and a movie that you'd call a comedy. Also this is a guy who jokes around a lot, so without hearing his tone from the interview, I kind of wonder how serious he was in that moment.
Darcy gets a bum rap in the Thor films. Of the three main human characters, she's the one I actually like.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Thor's cast is weird.
It seems like having Jane and Selvig both are redundant and Selvig really gets better moments with Thor overall.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJane suffers immensely from Obligatory Love Interest Syndrome, wherein she only really seems to exist to be a life support system for the hero's favorite vagina. The character redundancy with Selvig and tendency for him to get all the Big Science Person moments contributes significantly to that.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. What if the characters were fused and Selvig became the love interest
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThen the MCU would have its first gay superhero.
I'd be for it.

Among other things I also discuss why removing Selvig from the movie would have improved Jane as a character.
I feel like Darcy's reputation might have gone downhill thanks to Kat Dennings being infamous for starring on 2 Broke Girls. Because clearly, if an actor is on an enormously shitty movie or TV show, they suck and never made anything good whatsoever. It's like how people used to rag on Kristen Stewart because of Twilight even though she had roles where she actually showed she wasn't a bad actress, or how people ragged on Ben Affleck because of Gigli and Daredevil until he directed Argo.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Fusing Selvig and Jane would be good for character efficiency, but I feel it would also demand drastic change of Thor’s behavior towards Loki in the first Avengers film. There is no way he would be the charitable “good cop” of the team with his brother if he knew Loki was personally imprisoning his love interest.

Darcy is like one of the few things I remember from the first two movies.
This song needs more love."This is just like the time he turned me into a frog so I'd miss norse prom"
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

I liked Darcy, I liked Selvig. I don't even remember what Jane does
