Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Colleen doesn't know about the dark side of the hand, that was the whole point. So she doesn't know about the resurrection. And it is also pretty clear that neither Davos nor Danny know a lot either because the only thing they were ever taught was "here is the path, guard it, kill every hand soldier who might turn up".
Yes, there is an antidote for the drug, but nobody but the hand has it. Which is exactly why this drug is so dangerous, it is mostly a scheme for control...remember is wasn't about to be sold at the streets, but mostly to the rich and powerful. Can you imagine the power Gao could have wielded if a high percentage of the white collar leaders of the city are dependent on her drug?
Naturally Ward helps Danny...he feels guilty, and it was established fairly early on that he actually feels uncomfortable with the really scrupulous stuff when he has to do it himself. He can order sh... things and then look the other way, but he can't really stomach doing it himself (hence him constantly sending Joy to do the "difficult" negotiations), And Danny is absolutely right that the hand wants him alive. Otherwise they would have done a p... poor job so far containing him.
Don't be too hard on Joy or her arc...after all she did what the other didn't manage, uncover all the dealings of the Hand. And the show actually makes a point about how not-okay it was to keep her out of the loop for so long.
"Nobody but us has it," is the default starting position of every product. Before Microsoft started selling the Xbox, nobody but Microsoft had it. Taking the product and distributing it to people for a profit is basic capitalism.
Since when does Ward feel guilty? I mean, he tried to have Danny killed himself not long ago, and he totally sold Danny out to Bakuto in this very episode. It is a completely nonsensical 180 for him to abruptly be concerned for Danny's well-being.
I said this about Ant-Man and I'll say it again here: making a plot point out of the marginalization of female characters does not actually absolve the story of marginalizing female characters. That the show openly acknowledges that Joy is a shallow character who only exists to be loved by the important male characters does nothing to make her any less of a shallow character who only exists to be loved by the important male characters.
The only thing it changes is that we can be 100% certain that Marvel knew exactly what they were doing with her character and openly embraced sexist tropes. The choices made with Joy and Colleen are not accidental.

you can only research something if you have the means to do so. If you were a highly prolific person, would you tell the world that you are a drug addict and please, please can someone invent something to free you from said addiction?
No, Ward didn't try to kill Danny, he ORDERED someone to kill him. That is the whole point of his arc. He is this guy who was sitting in his ivory cage, doing whatever his father wanted him to do by ordering other people to do it for him. Harold even did his very best to ensure that he would supress his emotions. And then Danny comes around, messes everything up and actually forces Ward to witness what the hand is doing first hand. Ward can no longer pretend that this didn't happen and can no longer disconnect himself from the consequences of his actions. He searches a way out and when Harold denies him this, he snaps, and then tries his very best to get his life in order while also protecting Joy...something in which he utterly fails, btw, because in his attempts to protect her from Harold he lead an even bigger enemy in the Hand to her. But you know who protected Joy? Danny did by giving himself up. Ward has no allies left BUT Danny, and he certainly can't allow Harold to just run around, knowing what kind of dangerous monster he is. So naturally he warns Danny. He owes him (for Joy) and Danny is the only one left who might be able to help him.
On the flipside, I don't agree to the assessment that the show just comments on the habit of marginalizing females in media, Joy is too fleshed out for this. What the show actually does is to show what impact it has on Joy that the men in her live keep her out of the loop to protect her, and how she tries reclaim her own agency. (The downside is that we never learn if she does in the end, but I am not ready to judge her arc before actually knowing how it ends).

I don't buy that Joy is fleshed out at all. She's the most superfluous character on the show, and they cannot decide from scene to scene what her personality is.
And I'm sorry, but her plotline being "she's intentionally excluded from the important stuff by the people around her, who are pretty much all MEN BTW," then that's a CRAP plotline. You'd think that at some point, at least one of the "creative team" would have said "hey you know that this is an incredibly regressive plotline right, maybe we shouldn't do this? We're literally making the guys shutting her out her entire thing this season, people are going to not like this"
It's the Hope van Dyne nonsense from Ant Man all over again, but even worse this time. And it makes me not really care where her story goes, because they've given me no reason to be interested in her at all. She might as well be a beach ball for the other characters to bat around randomly.

Ragnarok's runtime is 130 minutes
. And looks like we are getting a new Black Panther trailer within the next two weeks.
Don't worry.
She'll get a proper arc when she and Davos destroy that pretender Iron Fist and avenge the people of Kun lun.
The true heroes will save the day.
One Strip! One Strip! So in other words, send Danny back out into the world as one of the Chaste and let Davos be the Iron Fist?
That's a good idea. They should have done that.
One Strip! One Strip!Casting call for Avengers 4
. They're looking for mourners for a big funeral scene.

I can’t believe they’re killing Peggy Carter a fourth time.

Eh. Why does a Norse god who's actually an alien speak Ye Olde English? Why do all the mobsters on Daredevil eventually drop out of their native tongues? Why is Yondu from Alabama? ...For the benefit of any Americans listening, of course. Maybe there'll even be some African-language dialogue in the movie, to go with the updated traditional clothing the costume department put together.
...those costumes are so good. And I love that Black Panther can pull the wheel off a car while it's still in motion.
