Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

In lighter news:
We might get a trailer for Infinity War on September 29th!
(Please take it with a grain of salt, just in case.)
Guess we can say she's confirmed for Avengers 4. Which isn't too surprising of course, but Brie Larson actually filming scenes makes it very tangible.
Right now my basic theory is that Captain Marvel won't be in Avenger's 3 outside of a cameo or post-credit scene. However regardless of whether she's shown on screen at the very end of the movie her existence will be revealed, possibly by Nick Furynote .
This would turn her solo movie into an extended flashback of sorts, so when she has a proper appearance in Avengers 4 the audiences are familiar with who she is and what she is capable of.
Also sidenote: If Carol Danvers has indeed been cut off from Earth since the 90s, I hope she and Peter Quill have a scene where they catch up on all the pop culture history that's happened since then.

Carol, Peter, Steve, and Bucky.
Tony will literally die laughing his ass off over how hard he's trolling them before that night is anywhere close to over.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyThe MCU clearly needs a Temporal Fish Out Of Water from every decade.
In the next Spdier-Man movie, impulsive scientists open a time capsule from the 70's only to accidentallly unleash... The Hypno Hustler!
We thus far have 30's-40's, 80's, 90's, right? So we'd need 50's, 60's, 70's, 20's, 10's and 00's to get a full bingo of the 20th century.

Okay, I get Steve for Mulan (though I would have pegged him for Dumbo, especially since that would be a movie he might have seen during his own time), but why Clint for Big Hero 6 and not for Robin Hood? I would have pegged Tony more for the Big Hero 6 type. And why Wanda for Lilo and Stitch (I can imagine that being Rockets pick if he actually knew Disney movies) and Vision for Moana? Have you put Sam to Princess and the Frog just because he is black?

I think they will cover the 1960s as soon as they get the Fantastic Four back....

Tony would probably just find it funny. Wanda would be drawn to the whole "losing your parents tragically and having to try and move on and make new family members along the way" element of Lilo & Stich. Sam would probably love the music in Princess & the Frog. Clint would probably be drawn to the brother relationship in BH 6. And Vision would find the whole "realizing your place in the world/exploring new things" aspect of Moana interesting.

I can almost see in front of me, Bambi's mom being shot and Rocket grabbing the screen, crying, shouting "OH YOU SON OF A GUN I AM GOING TO SHOOT YOU SO MUCH YOUR BULLET HOLES WILL HAVE BULLET HOLES" and then pulling out a gigantic machine gun and unloading at the screen whilst screaming in tears .

That's great. I can totally see that.
So my thoughts:
I actually think that Princess and the Frog might be something Steve would be interested in. He likes Jazz and it's set during the time period he grew up/was born, and I think he'd like something that was classic Disney but with modern/progressive racial and gender politics.
Can kind of see Hercules though too in terms of parallels to his relationship with Peggy coupled with this version of Hercules being similarly an earnest guy with super strength.
I'll say Frozen for Wanda because she'd definitely get the idea of having a power that's sort of a curse that needs to be controlled and can harm others, but which she's also tempted to revel in.
I'd be tempted to say The Incredibles for Tony what with the Objectivist themes. Granted, the movie arguably suggests that power through technology is inferior to actual superpowers, so he'd hate that, but he'd probably like the philosophical discussion in the movie while somewhat rooting for Syndrome.
Clint has got to be Robin Hood, right? Or I suppose Brave.
Was kind of thinking Tangled for Natasha in so far as she could really relate to being raised under manipulative and emotionally abusive circumstances on account of a power/ability and then escaping and living more of a normal life.
Going to say The Sword in the Stone for Thor, since he knows all about magical objects that detect for worthiness.
Besides the obvious shrinking-based movies, I'd wonder about Alladin for Scott, because of that whole idea of a noble thief going respectable.
For Banner, I'll say Monsters, Inc. because he'd like the idea that a monstrous ability/form might not be solely pernicious and could even be a Friend to All Children.
I know it's obvious but I kind of have to say The Lion King for Black Panther. Besides the African setting and feline theme, it's about a prince reclaiming his kingdom and so would fit him more than say Hercules or The Princess and the Frog, where there's a desire or choice to abandon that to live a normal life. T'challa is all about responsibility.
Finally, I'll say Fantasia: 2000 for Bucky. He probably saw the original Fantasia when it came out, and it would be comforting to see a more modern movie that wasn't dissimilar from what was probably one of the last movies he saw.
Edit- Forgot Vision. Pinocchio does seem the most obvious. And I guess if you count Spider-Man, him too. Not really sure. Because of the New York themes, I could see him liking An American Tail, although given the setting, that's probably more Steve's kind of thing. Maybe A Bug's Life given the emphasis on winning through cleverness.
