Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'd be ok with Captain Nazi as an alternate universe exercise. It would be somewhat compelling to see good ol' Steve coming face-to-face with a polarity-reversed Steve Rogers from a wholly different universe (maybe a universe where he grew up in some sort of Nazi/HYDRA controlled America?) who grew up under a different set of circumstances that led him to becoming HYDRA's champion. It'd force Cap to do some self-reflecting about what makes him tick, his circumstances and if he is as right as he thinks he is.
Basically: It has the same appeal as the Justice Lords arc in Justice League Unlimited.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."
This wouldn't work in the MCU because it would break the established rules. Which are that the supersoldier serum only works with people who have the right kind of character. Otherwise they become crazy and impossible to control, because the serum amplifies all the traits of the person in question, including the negative ones.
None of that impossibilitates Captain Nazi. Red Skull was also subject to the serum and he's around. All it'd mean is that the serum would make enhance Evil!Steve's characteristics. So if he's a Knight Templar who genuinely believes in HYDRA's ideals, he'd just become more so.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Your thoughts guys?

It's not a line-up I'd be displeased with - certainly, I'd love for T'Challa and Carol to get on the team - but I will confess that it would feel like something was missing without any of the original 6. Still, I suppose such a change is inevitable.
If we did get such a team, though, do you think that the presence of T'Challa would indicate the Avengers being more of a global initiative, perhaps even with official backing?
Oh God! Natural light!I could see Valkyrie maybe taking Thor's place. Like if Odin dies/steps down (because Sir Anthony Hopkins is like 80 years old and who knows how much longer he wants to keep doing these films), Thor could step up and become King of Asgard finally (and you could maybe keep Chris Hemsworth around, but in a reduced capacity) and Valkyrie takes his place on the Avengers.
Also supposedly Tessa Thompson's contract is for multiple films as well.
If I were responsible and had free picks without any concerns about contracts aso, I would change the line-up to Cap, Falcon, Bucky, Wanda, Vision, the Wasp and Captain Marvel (who I would pick as replacement leader - assuming naturally that I like whatever they do with the character). Maybe also Natasha, though I wouldn't mind her instead going off with Fury, Maria and Shannon, having some cool James Bond like spy adventures instead. I feel that her talents aren't really served that well in the Avenger movies. Maybe the Hulk, if they have a good storyline for him.
Here is my reasoning: Tony and Rhodey are getting too old for their suits, and honestly, we don't need that many flying metal men. Clint has already been talking of retirement, so, time to do it. Thor needs some time off taking care of Asgard (plus, to think contractual for a change, he is the one actor they could replace by phasing him out for a while and then introduce someone new in the role). Black Panther has enough to do at home, Dr. Strange should get his own mystic part of the MCU to explore and Spider-man is too street level to be a permanent member. And Ant-man, well, I would simply like to see the Wasp having her own adventures.
That doesn't mean that none of those characters can't turn up during a big team-up movie, but as the actual standing team, I would stick to my selection.
My roster right now would probably be Cap, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, Valkyrie, Captain Marvel, and Wasp.
Tony, Thor, War Machine, etc can always stick around in more supporting roles. I kind of don't like the idea of Doctor Strange on the Avengers. And ally sure, but not on the actual team (much like Spider-Man).

Well, I think it is time to set up the next generation / New avengers characters (Amadeus Cho, Kamala Khan, Wiccan, Striker, Nova aso....so far they have only introduced Cassie Lang as possible legacy character), but only to set them up, not to introduce them as full fledged members. Otherwise....I guess there are a few properties I hope they will cover eventually (the savage lands, the whole British section and maybe the Greek gods) but for the line-up, there are mostly a few minor characters which might be worth adding if they have a good story form them. Firebird for example has a skill-set which isn't present yet in the Avengers (though it is naturally a little bit similar to what Hellfire can do), White Tiger is a possibility if she doesn't end up in the Netflix shows, Songbird but that would require them doing the Thunderbolt storyline first...honestly, this just depends on what Marvel wants to do anyway. One thing for sure, they are running out of characters who can carry their own franchise.
I'm skeptical of the leak. Not just because of the source, but it's one of those "No shit" leaks that consist of something people already could have or should have seen coming.
I mean, was anyone thinking Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man & Wasp weren't gonna be Avengers? It's definitely gonna happen, but this just seems like someone making an educated guess rather than a leaked scoop. Even the "scoop" that Iron Man dies is one people have been talking about forever.

Exactly...I don't need a scoop to predict most of the movies we will see in Phase 4....Got G Vol 3 (or Got G Zoom), Spiderman: The final Year (or something else along the line),Doctor Strange 2, Ant-man 3, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2.....and we will see a lot of team ups. Maybe we get a Namor movie, should the Disney lawyers cleared up the rights issue with a lot of luck perhaps something fantastic 4 related (if the rights revert back to Marvel one way or another). It is also possible that we finally get the Black Widow movie or if someone at Marvel heard my prayers a Roadtrip movie with Bucky and Falcom. But there is little which will happen which won't be guessed by somebody.
So...do you think they'll do the Secret Invasion or the Kree/Scrull war first? I would like to see Secret Invasion while Steve is still around, but on the other hand they already laid so much groundwork for the Kree/Scrull war.
Captain Marvel might actually not be. IIRC, her movie is taking place in the 90's and she won't be appearing in Infinity War.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Captain America's first movie was also advertised with the promise that he'd be in the next Avengers film. And was titled "The First Avenger". And was about a character for whom being lost out of his time is a major element.
Captain Marvel's first movie has been advertised with the promise that she will not be in the next Avengers film. I'm not holding my breath for Avengers 4 until someone at Marvel actually says it.
I can already hear the executives going, "Guys, come on, Captain Marvel would be like 60 now. We're not putting her in a movie just to have her be old and crotchety and pooping herself. Be real."

I won't be okay with Captain Nazi under ANY circumstances. There are some things which just shouldn't be touched.
Also...can we perhaps wait to sing the swansong for Inhumans until we have seen the result? And how is Joep Loeb suddenly incompetent? I mean, he is more or less responsible for ALL Marvel TV shows, and at least in the live action segment he has yet to deliver a bad one. Even in the animated segment the shows aren't exactly bad, they are just designed for a younger audience, making them inaccessible for us older fans.
