Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Spider-Man Homecoming kicks butt. Holy cow, what if they made a Spider-Man spin-off series? I would watch the heck out of that. But there's already a Spider-Man series about to run on Disney XD, so maybe they could have it focus on some sort of side character, like maybe Ned somehow becomes Electro by spending too much time on his computer.

If Ned were to become any supervillain, it would be Hobgoblin. Only for it to turn out to be brainwashing in the end, of course.

Well, that's hardly fair. Everyone's going to become Hobgoblin. Least, if they do the Hobgoblin proper. tongue

Seriously, I would love to see a cinematic version of the Hobgoblin secret identity mystery plot.

Hey, Bocaj, didn't you once link an essay (either here or someplace else) that went into detail about the Hobgoblin mystery?

Oh God! Natural light!

I really liked that essay and others on that site. What's the guy who used to do them up to now?

I'd love it if they do it and one of the big Hobgoblin "reveals" is Liz Allan. Especially if they do the same good job Spectacular did in reeling us in with a credible story about the slippery slope and resentment and revenge and all that stuff that makes us really think it might be true (with Harry), before giving us the real reveal for the climax.

[up] You can blame either the producers or Ike for not taking a good handling in the project.

Ike doesn't have any real creative input on the project other than pushing it through, I imagine.

Some new Ragnarok images.

Looks like Empire's gone all Tiger Beat for Ragnarok. See, here's a movie that knows it's a comic book, unlike Inhumans which seems like it barely even wants to be about its own title characters.

If Inhumans is as bad as it is as an act of spite I'll be kind of impressed, though disappointed because I've always been a fan of Medusa.

On the one hand, I don't want an MCU work to be bad. On the other, it'll probably force Scott Buck to cut all ties with Marvel, and it'll be pretty catahartic to see the Inhumans fail after Marvel tried to replace the X-Men with them.
