Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It doesn't even get a B+, it gets maybe a D+ with that + being from Ward's arc being the only good character arc of the entire series. Seriously I fucking love Ward's entire arc, it was worth the headache-inducing editing just to get to the scenes with Ward's character development and his interactions with Harold.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Okay, I didn't claim that Iron Fist is a great show, I said that it gets more ire than it deserves because it is graded on a curve. It is certainly better than half of the Superhero shows out there.
Same with Ao S...yes, it struggled in the beginning but a LOT of shows need some time for proper world building before they truly take off. Remember Buffy? Babylon 5? Star Trek TNG? Stargate? None of those shows had a particularly good first season and they all became cult shows. But Ao S partly struggled because of unrealistic expectations (still can't believe that there were people who actually expected an Avenger to show up) and partly because it isn't a particularly "jump-in"-friendly show, meaning that if you miss one or two episodes, you have already missed out on important information (and that was in the first season, by now you are lost if you miss just one episode because there are no filler episodes at all). I am not saying that there weren't avoidable mistakes in the first season, but the truth is that the show took off in its second season and never stopped running and yet it had to deliver the awesomeness which was season 4 in order for people to stop acting as if this is the most boring show ever while at the same time certain other shows can get away with two seasons of garbage riding on the coat tail of early praise.
Anyway, I just hope that in the case of Inhumans if it is truly a bad show, I would rather it be actually bad than yet another case of something which gets more flak than it deserves.
Oh, and btw, if there is someone here who hasn't caught up with Ao S yet: I recommend to do so. I can't promise anyone to like the show, but I can promise that the show will be a surprise. Because it is utterly unpredictable. And that is the highest compliment I can make the show (in fact, I am getting a great kick out of watching reaction vids for Ao S, because it is just so satisfying to see people predict wrong what will happen next).

We're back to shitting on Iron Fist again, then?
I enjoyed it, and so did everyone I know who watched it. I wouldn't rank it as high as, say, Daredevil Season 1, and it obviously has problems, but I enjoyed it about as much as I did the other shows and it was fun, and that's all I really care about in the end.
As for Inhumans getting bad reviews, I was never really hyped for it anyway so I don't particularly care, never had intentions to watch it.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The flaws were too much for me to properly enjoy it but I'll admit that once Ward's arc kicked in around...I wanna say Episode 5 or 6? Whenever it was, the show became a bit more tolerable and had a surprising amount of good writing towards a character I assumed I'd outright despise when he first showed up. Plus I admit I liked Colleen and Bakuto's fight even though I found Bakuto's actor to be awful outside of being a good martial artist.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? You know what? We have talked so much about the flaws of Iron Fist (mainly the low budget, the fights and why the hell is the intro grey (yes, I will never let that one go)), how about listing some strength for a change?
1. Ward. There is no denying that he got the best character arc out of any of the side characters in the Netflix shows. The way they presented him as potential villain and they peeled away his outer lawyers until we ended up with a deeply broken person was genius!
2. The new female characters! Outside of Jessica Jones Netflix has done a terrible jobs with its females if you ask me, but Colleen and Joy are both interesting, especially since they aren't as one-note as Karen or even Claire (don't get me wrong, I adore Claire, but that is mostly because the actress sells what is otherwise a pretty underwritten character). But the females in Iron Fist not only have multiple layers, they also get a lot of non-antagonist interaction with each other. Joy is an interesting mix of being on the one hand a good person and on the other hand easily corruptible. With Colleen I thought that she would be one-note too, but then they surprised me with her backstory (and I am not easily surprised).
3. Speaking of which, this was one of the best twists they did so far in the Netflix shows. They are pretty straightforward and predictable overall.
4. I liked Davos! Even though he is the third friend/brother figure who become the opponent of the hero, they have managed to make it interesting again by allowing Davos to actually have a point when it comes to Danny.
5. Harold! Okay, he isn't Killgrave, but he was a very entertaining villain overall. I am just saying Ice Cream Scoop. (And I still can't believe that I found this so entertaining, but I somehow do).
6. I also have to give the show credit for the hand. So far I considered the Hand the worst villain in the whole MCU, but Iron Fist made it at least a little bit more interesting with its different fractions (I wonder if there are actually five) and thank god finally laid down some ground rules for the Zombies.
7.J-Money!!!!
8. The set at RAND. There were a few I really liked, but this one stuck out to me.
9. Attention to detail. The thing is whoever thought out the fight scenes paid a lot of attention to who everyone is during the fight and that a knife which is thrown or a shot which goes off has to have some sort effect. I love this. I also love that the vendor which goes up in flame in the last episode is set-up in the first one, and a number of other small details.
10. Taaaaake on meeeeeeeee.......
I figure a lot of them will still have issues with Tony, because he's Tony Stark and if it was possible, he'd make an enemy out of the air itself by breathing in the wrong way.
As for Iron Fist...lets see if one day, we can add the hero himself to the list of things we actually like.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Honestly, I do, but I wanted to start with things I felt would be not quite so controversial.
I also happen to like the love story in Iron Fist. Netflix is usually terrible in writing romance (don't get me started on Daredevil season 2 in this regard or on how much I hate the Luke/Claire pairing), but I kind of like Danny and Colleen together in a teenager romance way (and yes I know that neither of them are teenager, but their maturity level is roughly on that level when it comes to relationships).
If you keep insulting Matt, Adric, I will set you on fire and then forget I did it to hold my moral superiority about killing.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Thats a pretty direct reference to a time that Matt Murdock totally killed a man.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, that was well-played, Gaon.
I loved all of the music in Iron Fist. Danny and Claire's Wu Tang Tai Chi scene was one of the highlights of the entire season for me. Their interactions, in general, were very strong and the two leads had such fun chemistry together. It was a great scene to sort of lull you in.
My various fanfics.
Honestly, this was the one time I actually liked the music (it is little talked about, but the sound was one of the reasons why the fight scenes didn't work like they should...if you time movements on music correctly they look faster, if you do it wrong they look slower), but yeah, this was a wonderful scene. I like those two practically dancing around each other and their finger fu.... makes me smile every time. The show could have used more scenes like this.
Oh, I also liked the scene when the white fabric turned into mountains. I wish they had more clever changes like this.

Oh, yeah. I finished Iron Fist. Really enjoyed it. Ward was the most fun character to watch his progression. The Danny/Davos fight was good.
