Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

My take on Caps arc in Ultron was that Ultron (and Wanda) assume that he's left his world behind in 1945, but the conclusion of the film were he assembles his own Avengers team proves that he has in fact built a new world for himself in the now.
Yes Steve looses a lot, but he's also very good at finding things. He's probably level with Hawkeye, who has lost his family, but always knew that would be a possibility.
Star Lord should probably be on the list...
In fairness to Tony, he had no control over Ross being the one he had to deal with here, and he didn't think that opting out was an option.
Oh God! Natural light!Yeah Tony was essentially trying to make the best of a not good situation, and keep Ross under control to at least some degree. It's why I was far less sympathetic to Cap in that movie than many others were (well not the only reason, but one of them). And why Ant Man and Hawkeye badmouthing him made me want to see someone slap both of them.
I'd almost love something kind of like that scene from Earth's Mightiest Heroes where Cap (actually a Skrull) "reasonably" hands a seemingly out of control Bruce over to the government, and Bruce is merely despondent about it until he finds out that Ross is the one taking him (except in this context Bruce wouldn't be handed over, but would simply be trying to understand the current situation). But I also think MCU Ross would probably be more interesting going forward if he were at least trying to be genuine about no longer being the obsessed, power-hungry man he once was and a scene like that might undermine that.
Also, after someone here wondered if Peter Quill would be a fan of Cap, another scene I randomly thought would be fun was if they sidestepped the whole "fugitives that shouldn't logically be working with the actual Avengers" bit by having Peter be - of course - totally blind to the bad blood and history going on and okay Steve and His Astonishing Cohorts coming on board the Milano simply because it's Captain America. Cue the rest of the movie being a lot of awkward reconciliations - or non-reconciliations, as the case may be.

I am not worried about the first four episodes of Defenders setting things up....that is what the first half of what is essentially an eight hour movie supposed to do, setting things up for the big pay-off. As long as there is a rewarding pay-off in the second half of the show, we should be good.
I also don't mind a slow pacing as long as there are good character moments in it.
At this rate, the only MCU actor that won't appear in IW is Natalie Portman (which I don't think we will mind too much).
Yeah acting like Tony betrayed Bruce is a bit of a stretch. A really big bit of a stretch. You really can't compare working with one of your friends' old enemies to avoid a huge international incident to your friend protecting the man who murdered your family and then not telling you about it.
Funny enough, she did indicate in more recent interviews that she might have softened her stance on not coming back. I still don't think she will, but I guess it's possible for a brief cameo.

- Banner: Wait, you're working with ROSS?!
- Stark: Yeah. I figured he had way too much power to be left unchecked and someone needed to be there to rein him in. Besides, as dangerous and destructive as he is, I think there might be a lot of potential there that could be put to use if we could just find a way to harness it.
- Banner: ...you know what? That's hilarious. I approve.
Keith David has joined the New Warriors show
. Awesome. Keith David is the shit.
