Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They said the two films aren't gonna be part of a Movie Multipack, not that it's not gonna follow the same storyline.
Return of the Jedi follows the plot that began in Empire Strikes back, they're just not a "Part I, Part II" deal.

Easy mistake to make. I'm seeing people speculate that Thanos dies in Infinity War and that the villain of the sequel is someone else, even though there's really nothing to indicate that.
My guess is people are thrown off by the fact that both films were originally "Infinity War: Part I" and "Infinity War: Part II" before being retitled. I get the sense the retitling had less to do with Marvel changing the story and more to do with two-part films increasingly coming under fire in recent years.
I think the same thing might have happened with the Justice League movie as well.

I personally expect Infinity War to end with the heroes getting their asses handed to them thoroughly, but Thanos has not yet achieved total victory, either because he's not in a position to yet, or because the heroes managed to pull off some sort of Hail Mary, the result is that both sides need to regroup, and it's under this status quo that the Avengers try to find Captain Marvel (and maybe Ant-Man and the Wasp happens with a similar justification? Do we know exactly when that movie takes place).
On a related note, on the question of the Infinity Stones...in the D23 trailer (which I did manage to find), Thanos definitely has the Space Stone (likely given to him by Loki) and I think he has the Power Stone as well (I believe he has two when he throws that moon at the heroes, and I'd imagine those would be the ones he'd use to do that), which suggests that he lays waste to Xandar - some of those ruined structures seemed to look a lot like the Nova Corps emblem. Unless I'm very much mistaken, Gamora seems to stumble on the ruins of the Collector's lair, suggesting that Thanos at the very least makes a grab for the Reality Stone (I have an image of Gamora fighting Corvus for some reason - that might be cool), and I suspect that the Ebony Maw will try to wrest the Time Stone from Strange. And, of course, Vision has the Mind Stone.
The tricky part here is the Soul Stone, which I think will like appear in Thor: Ragnarok (I am now on the side of people who think that it's somehow Heimdall's eyes), though how it plays into things isn't clear at the moment, and will probably need to wait until the end of that movie before we can say for certain. If I had to guess, I'd say that it somehow comes into Thanos' possession in Ragnarok's stinger, but considering that I don't recall Thanos wearing an orange stone on his Gauntlet in the Infinity War trailer, that seems unlikely.
Thoughts?
Oh God! Natural light!![]()
That's a very interesting theory since the info they just released today about Ragnarok says Heimdall is missing at the start of the movie, and Executioner is his replacement. Maybe he really does have the Soul Stone and goes on the run to try and keep it safe?
Having seen the leaked IW trailer, there's also a brief shot of Gamora standing in the Collector's museum, and it looks completely trashed. So I'm guessing Thanos kills the Collector and takes the Reality Stone as well.

Zemo: "What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to yourself? Your country, or your old friend? The mission, or your beliefs? Your duty to your unit, or your personal feelings? Look at how much you've lost already! What kind of country deserves this much loyalty, Steve?"
Wanda: "The futures we saw were one and the same. Steve, you will destroy Iron Man, and you will create a new Iron Man in it's place. Your children; Les Infant Terribles. Steve, your son will bring the world to ruin. Your son... will save... the world."
The Winter Soldier: "... Number of warheads detected by the DEW Line?"
Dr. Zola: "Fifty-seven."
The Winter Soldier: "Number of MIR Vs included?"
Dr. Zola: "Minimum twenty-nine, maximum thirty-five."
The Winter Soldier: "Target region?"
Dr. Zola: "United States. East Coast."
The Bucky AI: "Estimated time of reentry?"
Dr. Zola: "Two-oh-four-eight Zulu.
The Winter Soldier: "President's selected attack option?"
Dr. Zola: "Unknown."
The Winter Soldier: "The President is dead?"
Dr. Zola: "Unknown. Communication has been lost."
The Winter Soldier: "... I select Offutt Air Force Base as my target."
Dr. Zola: "Offutt...? But that's a U.S. base! What on earth do you mean?!"
The Winter Soldier: "Based on the projected number of incoming warheads, Washington D.C. is presumed destroyed. The President is most likely dead, the U.S. government's control lost."
Dr. Zola: "I realize that. So why not retaliate?!"
The Winter Soldier: "With both sides destroyed, global anarchy would ensue. Recovery would be... difficult. The United States' nuclear strike capability must therefore be neutralized in order to preserve the Communist bloc, where government remains largely intact."
Dr. Zola: "You're siding with the enemy? You can't be serious!"
The Winter Soldier: "Tell me, how do you define enemy? There are no borders in this world."
Dr. Zola: "The same conclusion, again and again... Where is the flaw? All right. Let's try something else. Commencing test."
The Winter Soldier: "Understood."
Dr. Zola: "You're crossing a suspension bridge."
The Winter Soldier: "Is this my mission?"
Dr. Zola: "Yes. Your destination is the other side. The bridge is wide enough for only one person to pass at a time. A man is approaching from the opposite side. He's carrying a gun."
The Winter Soldier: "I shoot him. "
Dr. Zola: "Suppose he's your husband? "
The Winter Soldier: "... I shoot him."
Dr. Zola: "In self defence?"
The Winter Soldier: "To spare him the grief. One must die, and one must live."
Dr. Zola: "... Next question. Your father asks you to fix the roof and mow the lawn. When you climb the ladder onto the roof, the ladder is taken away."
The Winter Soldier: "I fix the roof."
Dr. Zola: "And when you're finished?"
The Winter Soldier: "I jump down."
Dr. Zola: "You'll break more than bones at this height."
The Winter Soldier: "I see no need to change my decision. I have not finished mowing the lawn. I must remain loyal to the mission."
Dr. Zola: "... Next. There is a Steve in the bushes. It is poisonous. I need you to get rid of it."
The Winter Soldier: "I chase it back to its nest."
Dr. Zola: "You can't. The Steve's too vicious. It's already killed many people."
The Winter Soldier: "... I chase it away."
Dr. Zola: "It will bite you unless you kill it."
The Winter Soldier: "Go home! ...Kill me... Kill me now..."
Dr. Zola: "Why not kill the Steve? Your mission is to get rid of it. Is this what you call loyalty? What are you loyal to? Country? Ideology? Feelings? "
The Winter Soldier: "I... I... I am loyal to myself."
Big/"Vic" Cap: "We will forsake our countries. We will leave our motherlands behind us and become one with this earth. We have no nation, no philosophy, no ideology. We go where we're needed, fighting, not for government, but for ourselves. We need no reason to fight. We fight because we are needed. We will be the deterrent for those with no other recourse. We are soldiers without borders, our purpose defined by the era we live in. We will sometimes have to sell ourselves and services. If the times demand it, we'll be revolutionaries, criminals, terrorists. And yes, we may all be headed straight to hell. But what better place for us than this? It's our only home. Our heaven and our hell. This is Outer Sanctum."
T'Challa: "He mentioned something interesting: Tony is pursuing new research. He claims that what they're doing in Africa is the missing piece... A weapon to surpass Iron Man."
Punished "Venom" Cap: "I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you, plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds...We are Diamond Defenders."
Thanos: "Such a lust for vengeance... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO??!?!??!?"

I actually know next to nothing about Marvel comics, so I just used stuff I saw when I looked up Nomad.
