Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They didn't make any recent deal. The Skrull thing has been on the books for a while. I think Whedon even said the reason the Skrulls weren't the bad guys in the first Avengers is because he didn't want to have to deal with the added treachery/paranoia aspect in a film that was already full of in-fighitng.
I don't know why they'd make plans for the X-Men. If there's a franchise they have the slightest chance of getting back, it's the Fantastic Four, not the X-Men, and even that looks dubious.
Part of what made the Spider-Man deal possible is that Marvel and Sony already had a much better working relationship than Marvel and Fox.

Sounds like the Captain Marvel movie
will take some inspiration from The Kree/Skrull War. Feige also seemed to hint there have been Skrulls in hiding for a while (he asked if the Skrulls have been around this whole time, why did it take 21 movies for them to show up in person). Secret Invasion, much?
If I could marry a trailer, it'd be the Thor: Ragnarok trailer.
Until the sexier, younger and dirtier IW trailer comes around, then I'd cheat on Thor: Ragnarok so fast that even Tiger Woods would be disgusted.
On other note, I've seen the 16-seconds-long Infinity War teaser. It shows pretty much nothing. Helmet-less Thanos, Dr. Strange and Starlord team-up, who I think is Tony falling, and Spidey. I'm frantically searching for it but damn, Disney is deleting them lightning fast, dude.
Given the inspirations for Scott's suit I can only hope she will become Hannah John-Kamen Rider. Anyway it's nice that they're looking beyond just white actresses for their villain characters as well.
I did love Thor's eyes lighting up and everything after Hela asks what he's the God of. Hopefully we're finally starting to get the MCU characterizations and power tiers closer to the comics.
My various fanfics.I don't like the Janet casting, but that is mostly because I wanted them to make good on the idea that space and time doesn't matter in the microverse or whatever it is Janet is trapped in, hence her not aging at all, hence her now being younger than her own daughter, hence creating a number of storytelling opportunities which couldn't be done with Steve because for one, he didn't have any children when he went into the ice and two, he was asleep for so long that most of the people he knew already died. Plus, two active Wasps would be awesome.
Anyway, I guess the Thor Trailer just blew everything else out of the water. This is great, Asgard looks and feels for the first time like an actual place and not some elaborate CGI set.
It's harder but you can still be a hero while old. Look at Tony and Rhodey.
And considering they have a bunch of older actors playing the male superheroes while all the female ones are in their 20s to 30s I don't see what's wrong with letting a character who's expected to be an older woman actually be played by one for once.

I'm pretty sure they claimed in last year's comic-con (or another event, I don't remember perfectly) that Ragnarok would be the Winter Soldier of phase 3, so maybe.
And I hope that means we'll get Hela in more than just Ragnarok.

The Shiar are supposed in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Despite the series never even hinting at a world larger than Earth.
At this point I feel as if Marvel Studios just don't have the plans for the F4 or X-Men until late Phase 4, otherwise they wouldn't be making these little deals. Too bad, I want to see a really good X-Men flick before I turn 40.
