Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Did the rain thing happen in the MCU?
And whatever the vector, it still has to be exposure to terrigen.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, Joey got his power by eating fish oil pills, Yoyo got it by eating fish and there was some guy who was REALLY blessed with sucks who got it in a rainstorm. Basically it is in the water and you have little chance to avoid it all your life if you have the gene.
What I meant with random is that with the Mutants the rules are pretty much "they turn up during puberty" and every change to this concept needs explanation which this mutant got his power earlier/later. But with Inhumans, people can get their abilities any time and within the MCU, everything water related can be the trigger.
Puberty is more of an average with mutants. It's when most mutant abilities and traits manifested, but there were a lot of mutants, with a lot of variation between them. Mutations could manifest as early as birth or go unnoticed— or be kept hidden— until adulthood, in the case of mutants who had powers but might look otherwise normal, for instance.
It really depends on the kind of stories the writers want to tell. In the pages X-Men, a lot of new mutants are teenagers because a their backstories are often mini-coming of age stories. With villains, you get "powers triggered early" more often because it tends to be more important that they have powers in the first place than knowing when they got them - at least until you eventually get to their backstory.
Then you get the characters whose X-Gene activating is like evolution in the Pokemon anime: whenever it's dramatically convenient for this supporting character to have new abilities.
Don Cheadle talks about how Rhodey is back in Infinity War
. Sounds like they're partially doing the cyborg thing from the comics.
I'm expecting it to be more of an exoskeleton-type deal. Rhodey would be the type to value physical ableness, but It'd still be nice if they consulted some dIsability advocates on how to do this without coming off as patronizing. There's so many viewpoints on this including the idea that any kind of prosthetics is inherently ableist, but at least they can say they did the research.
Minor Black Panther spoilers revealed in recent EW Interview.
Killmonger's a prince
Wakanda has been mining vibranium for over 2,000 yrs
Sounded like Shuri is 16
The reaction that some Wakandans will have to T'Challa becoming king is the same as when Trump became president
Most of the movie takes place in Wakanda and South Korea with very little in the US.
Killmonger's mask from the trailer is a Wakandan relic.
The scene from the trailer where we see Klaue with a gun is during a heist scene where he's trying to steal Wakandan relics.
Sounded like the interrogation scene takes place early in the movie.
After the interrogation scene T'Challa and Okoye lie to Ross about Wakanda being advanced and Ross doesn't believe them.
Like he'll make Wakanda great again or he's an airheaded moron manchild hopelessly unqualified?
My various fanfics.![]()
That sounds like Stan Lee sharing his philosophy on heroes and heroism in a minute.
And it is awesome.

Inhumans are way less random as to how and when they manifest, since it has to involve Terrigen and they have to have the gene. Mutants just...are, and the whole idea was the X-gene was something all humans carried and thus any child could potentially be a mutant
Fans aren't really protective of who can be a mutant so much as they were objecting to the idea that no one can be, which is what was happening with Inhumans supplanting them.
