Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

End of the day, Fox doesn't want to give back the Four and Marvel doesn't really want them back either. I still remember years ago when Kevin Feige told people, "Don't be rooting for Fantastic Four to fail in the hopes that the rights will revert to Marvel and we'll start making a ton of movies with them. Why would we want to make movies out of a franchise audiences have proven that nobody likes?"
Paraphrased because it was a long time ago, but the point is, Marvel getting back the rights because the F4 make garbage movies that nobody likes would not lead to Marvel making movies with them. Maybe they'd show up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or something, but they'd be kept far away from the cinematic MCU if the reason for their return is "Their films suck and everyone hates them."
Now, I don't know about you, but I don't think their last F4 film is a very effective argument for why they're a totally successful brand and Marvel should cut deals to make films with them.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Honestly, everything which is said about this issue is part of a long negotiation, so I take it with a grain of salt.
Speaking of negotiations and taking things with a grain of salt, has Sony actually started shooting on any of the movies which are announced? And which ones of the Fox projects actually look like they will be happen? Just because they secured multiple dates it doesn't mean that they will actually use them for the announced movies.

It's overall consistent with their track record, though. We got reboots of Daredevil, Punisher, Elektra, and Ghost Rider, just as far away from the actual movies as possible. Spider-Man was the sole exception because of two factors: He's one of the most popular and marketable fictional characters in history and even though his last movie was a financial disappointment, that was mostly relative to its insane budget and marketing costs. It still did 700 million plus, indicating there's still an audience that justifies trying another Spidey reboot.
Like I said previously, the best case scenario I could see for getting the FF rights back is having Doom show up as the villain in the next Avengers movie, or Galactus and the Skrulls.

Description of the teaser for Infinity War
. Sounds epic.
The Guardians hit Thor with the Milano. Loki brings the Tesseract to Thanos. Steve has a beard now. Hulkbuster shows up. Spider-Man has his new suit from the end of Homecoming. Big fight between the Avengers and Thanos. Black Panther and Bucky with the army of Wakanda. Thanos beating the shit out of Iron Man.

We big fans on the internet understand the rights matter, but the movie also has to appeal to Joe and Jane Moviegoer, which is different. They're just going to see it as yet another bad movie in a franchise.
I know people who roll their eyes about Spider-Man: Homecoming because they aren't aware of the rights issue and see it as just yet another reboot of a tired franchise. FF would have it even worse due to their less-than-stellar quality.

I'd actually see this film if it happened.
Black Order revealed
. Shoulda been obvious, but ya know, the internet. Another look
