Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's tied for 2nd place with Spectacular Spider-Man for me.
Seems like they're going with a lot of the things we've suggested in this thread before about how to deal with M'Baku. Cool to see they're operating on similar wavelengths. No radically tonedeaf "solutions" here.
Interesting to see Okoye described as a traditionalist sort. And I'm glad they've been reiterating that Wakanda isn't utopic, because it seems like they're aware of the flaws of Hudlin's run and besides it would make the film more boring.
I'm a bit late to the discussion but regarding Guardians Vol 1 and 2, I'm a bit unnsure of which is better.
Well, that's not true; I think Vol 2 is a superior movie in terms of production values; better plot, better humor, better character development, better running theme, better villain, better action sequences... basically better in every way. But as a sequel, it's going to inherently lack that "first time" value that the Vol 1 will always have. Vol 2 is a mild step up from Vol 1, but Vol 1 is a major step up from not existing at all, so in terms of relative improvement the first one kinda has an unfair advantage. At the end of the day I'm unsure whether to rank the two of them based on overall quality or personal experience.
I dunno if that made any sense, but...

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
Yeah, I do....just look at the use of music. In the first movie, it was a revelation. Not that Got G is the first movie which uses known songs, but the way they tied the mix-tape into the plot was genius. Though it is kind of normal for the MCU that whenever there is a song used, it plays in-universe, too, most of them don't have the emotional connection the mix-tape has. In the second movie it was expected, but they also used the songs in a way more meaningful manner, especially "Brandy", "The Chain", "Father and Son" (god, I'll never be able to hear this song again without becoming teary eyed) and to a lesser degree "Come a little bit closer". People might like the first soundtrack better because there were more popular music pieces on it, the stuff you are automatically want to sing and dance to, but the second soundtrack was deep.
The first soundtrack had The Five Stairsteps in it, so in my book it wins by default. Though on the other hand, the second soundtrack heavily features Brandy and does so in a way that's both deep and beautiful. But on the other other hand the opening Redbone sequence in first movie while not as deep was amazing all the same...
Yeah. I dunno.

So with Defenders coming up, I have to ask, how many people here buy the theory that "Alexandra" is Heather Rand, Danny's mother?
- You don't pull Never Found the Body unless you're going to do some kind of shocking twist with it, so the fact that they make a point that Danny never found his mother's body strikes me as too deliberate a setup to just be some emotional drama.
- Madame Gao mentioned having met with Heather. Her only involvement in the murder was giving Harold the poison so he could kill Wendell, so she has no real reason to be familiar with Heather unless there's some kind of Hand connection there. Now, Madame Gao could have just been lying to get under Danny's skin, but her MO has always been to hurt people with hard truths, not lies, so I think she was telling the truth.
- Bakuto insisted that "someone" in the Hand (implied to be Bakuto's superior) was very eager to work with Danny. Could just be because he's the Iron Fist, but the way Bakuto words it makes it sound like it's a personal interest in Danny Rand, not the Iron Fist.
- While they're played by different actresses, and Sigourney Weaver is a bit older than Heather Rand would be, I think they could get away with it. Sigourney looks young for her age.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Always happens. You're in the middle of destroying a civilization and your shoe unties. Then you have to stop the wholesale slaughter and mayhem to bend over and tie it. The poor unfortunate saps populating this world are forced to wait for their imminent annihilation and watch you do your bunny loops. Then you can resume the massacre.
For about two minutes. Then the other one comes untied.

This song needs more love.Stray Legos sound like a very Peter Quill/Peter McCallister-ian way of dealing with Thanos.
