Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

What a hideous art style.
Of course you would hate Erica Henderson's magnificent art. Because you hate joy and fun and all things associated with joy and fun.

Squirrel Girl was a mistake - Steve Dikto.
Actually, Steve Ditko is too busy drawing Mr. A's objectivist screeds to care about Squirrel Girl. But Will Murray, who co-created her, loves the current incarnation and wrote a story for her 25th anniversary.

It's a joke referencing Myiazaki's "Anime was a mistake" comment but if you keep this up I'll be forced to pick you up with my metal claws and drop you in the fucking Hudson so you can drown while wrapped in a parachute.

I find Unbeatable Squirrel Girl's art style utterly hideous to the point it's no wonder people rag on it so much.

The character works in a comedy. Which New Warriors is.

Also, I know thou art making thy stupid cat head bigger only to annoy me.

Well, that's going on the list. Right up there with "I don't want to cure cancer, I want to turn people into dinosaurs."

[up][up] It's not for everyone, but there are people who love the art and think it fits perfectly for the book. So please don't presume to think that everyone hates it.

I also think that the Art looks ugly. I can't even say "yeah, kind of ugly but I see where the artist is going for and if nothing else, it looks different"...nope, it simply looks ugly.

Look forward to seeing the character, though, but I agree that they better keep her in her own little corner.

Squirrell Girl's getting adapted ?

Damn it! Oh Lord what have I done to incur such disfavour?

I think without Ryan North's voice and narrative, squirrel girl will fall flat for me. She did when Al Elwing wrote her and I normally love everything that guy prints.

I like the writing and the design for Unbeatable Squirrel Girl but Henderson's art is pretty awful looking and technically deficient. Other more experienced artists have drawn her in a similarly nonconventional style as Henderson's, but because they actually know their anatomy it looked magnitudes better.

I love Squirrel Girl as a character, but I have to agree; that art is bad. It looks amateurish and visually unappealing.
