Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So regarding the Spider-Man Homecoming YMMV page I'm seeing a ton of negativity towards Zendaya's character. Looking at critical reviews I haven't noticed them saying much about her either way so I can't tell if her personality is actually objectionable (there's been some nonspecific criticism about the film's portrayal of female characters in general) or if it's just a bunch of butthurt because of the (spoileriffic btw) ending.

It does seem rather butthurt, particularly the stuff about being a Hollywood Nerd.
Would it be alright if I deleted that entry, under the justification that more time is needed for a general consensus to form?
Oh God! Natural light! There's no way a character can be The Scrappy before release. Can it.
As for Internet Backdraft, it's doubtful there's an actual backdraft there but check to see if it does exist before canning it. If there is some criticism and collective groaning about the reveal (that is, if it is what the vague spoilers I've gotten implied it is), but just that and not a backdraft, stick it to Narm.

My general assumption is that she might be a Base-Breaking Character, but I'm seeing nowhere near the amount of bile for her to be The Scrappy.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I definitely don't see her being a Scrappy yet. That's just ridiculous and almost certainly the result of butthurt.
This song needs more love.Yeah at worst Base-Breaking Character. I have an idea who might have added the Scrappy entry too lmao.
Fury is confirmed back for Captain Marvel by Deadline
, confirming that previous rumor.

Alright, it's done.
Not really sure if where to check if people are considering the line that was under Internet Backdraft to be Narm, though - and in any case, from what I read there, I don't know if the two would overlap here anyway. I suggest we hold off on that for now.
Oh God! Natural light! How is Infinity war wrapping up the current arc news? I thought that was clear all along?
And I still want the secret invasion storyline, even though Ao S kind of did that one already.
It's not really about the amount of bile, as since those are two YMMV entries, they tend to overlap a lot (all base-breaking charactersnote that are sufficiently prominent will get enough haters to become The Scrappy).
It's just that it's nonsensical to say that a fandom despises a character when it hasn't even seen the movie yet.
Randall Park reportedly playing Jimmy Woo in Ant-Man & The Wasp[1]
Weird. I had heard that Johnny Depp was being considered.
But yeah, cool casting. And nice to see the other main canonical SHIELD/government character (besides Fury, Hill, Everett Ross, and Sharon Carter). I always like seeing "prime time comedy" actors in the MCU, as it shows a good grasp of the right actors to convey the tone.
Some other Ragnarok figures
, including the first look at Miek from Planet Hulk

I think this is true, which is unfotunate but it wouldn't bother me so much if what we got instead wasn't just generic and bad shops. I'd much prefer to see stuff like that one Homecoming poster that has Spidey just chilling; it has a very strong personality and doesn't make any shops horrendously obvious.
