Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

"Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right, even if the whole world is telling you to move. It is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say, no. You move."
Sorry. Couldn't resist. But yeah, this should be moved to the other thread and there needs to be some more civil (pun unintended) or preferably friendly discussion
He's in physical therapy
I think he'll return, even if the new War Machine armor doubles as a prosthetic of sorts
Or whatever you call it when you wear powered armor to walk better

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI believe the technical term is dreadnought, or possibly dragoon.
I think Don Cheadle and RDJ are the same age, or close to it. Which might have been your point.

Yup. They're already slowly phasing Tony out of hero duty into more of a mentor role and possibly killing him off in Infinity War. So unless they want to make Rhodey a Handicapped Badass Grandpa he's probably going to be similarly limited. Though due to their different character niches Tony's appearances will mostly be Willy Wonka man while Rhodey's can be more action oriented.

I think the best way to do Rhodey at this point would be to be a mentor for other, younger heroes.
If they don't want to do that, then I'd say that Infinity War should be his last appearance. He doesn't need to be killed off, but him retiring would be alright.
Oh God! Natural light!I'd commit actual murder for a movie about Iron Heart in which Rhodey fulfills the role of a grizzled mentor.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The various Defenders are about as close as they'll probably get, and they're pretty much an ongoing deconstruction of those kinds of wounded Lone Man protagonists rather than an homage. That archetype is more likely to either be rehabilitated or self-destruct in the MCU.

Its a salient point. Does Marvel need a dark movie when it has the Netflixes.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don't see a hypothetical "Old Man Rhodey" movie as a Logan type, at any rate. I see it with Rhodey handling with the massive events of Infinity War, the probable loss of his friend(s) and how to survive in this brave new world that has such creatures in it.
Logan is about a broken old warrior's last act of heroism whether it makes up for a life of sin and bloodshed. I see "Old Man Rhodey" as a much more uplifting flick about aging with grace and getting over loss. More like the Spiritual Antithesis to Logan.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Age of Ultron is not really clear about the point, but I always assumed that Wanda didn't know that Bruce would Hulk out in reaction to the mind whammy, mostly because no one else reacted the way he did. Even Thor became weak due to his hallucinations. I was actually always way more bothered about Wanda's involvement in the attack in Soul. But then, Age of Ultron uses the "she is a soldier fighting for another power" argument, which isn't necessarily a bad one. I mean, if you had killed all German soldiers, it would have created a huge problem. So I guess Marcus and Mc Feely started with the assumption of a clean slate for Wanda in Civil War.
Honestly, problems like this are actually seeded in Age of Ultron, it is kind of dishonest to blame Civil War for them, especially considering how much it does to clear up some aspects of Age of Ultron (like the Pepper question).
Even if you ignore AOU completely she still carelessly throws a bomb into a crowded building in Civil War without any government backing for her actions in a foreign country. There were many better ways that could've been handled. Heck, given that they knew exactly who was behind it, where they were going, and what they were after, the hard part was out of the way; the Avengers shouldn't have even been there at all.
"It is very easy to be kind; the difficulty lies in being just."Hey, crazy idea: Don't see movies you don't like. No one's forcing you to watch movies. You don't have to be a fucking baby about it.
My various fanfics. His next War Machine will just skip the middle-man and have it be a weaponized wheelchair.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

At least four people want the conversation to move, it'd be courteous to move it.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
