Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There's also Thor, eventually, and Namor, and Doctor Doom. And yeah, Black Panther will probably examine the king-and-superhero thing in greater depth. That's fine. Black Bolt is more of a plot driver than a protagonist. But 'Black Bolt' is kind of the ultimate superhero name, and being king is pretty much his whole deal. I just don't see the point of dancing around the basic premise of the character.

So did Black Bolt, originally. But being a superpowered king isn't really wholly unique in Marvel, is my point. The reason Black Bolt is the exemplar here is because, at a glance, he looks and sounds more like a superhero than most actual Marvel superheroes. Someone worked pretty hard to justify his name being Black Bolt. He wears tights and a mask. I just don't get the point of shying away from that or trying to reinvent the character when the four-colour quirkiness is like half the reason to even make an Inhumans adaptation.

That Spidey link also touches on some discussion we all had a couple pages back; if the Venom&Others spinoffs were part of the MCU and/or Homecoming universe. And guess what, they aren't.
So either she was misunderstood, or Marvel put a stop to Sony's plans the moment Amy Pascal opened her mouth and now they're trying to play it cool. You be the judge.
Your thoughts?
The only good fanboy, is a redeemed fanboy.

Black Bolt is a superhero to his subjects. Like Thor often acts as a superhero for his Asgardian subjects.
