Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Doesn't seem like they're doing the jealousy thing she had over T'Challa becoming Black Panther over her. It could be both a good and a bad thing.

[up]There was a period early on where she was considered The Scrappy so I can see why they'd veer away from her initial characterization.

Hey, it's that scene from Luke Cage. Minus the robbery, of course.

Kevin Feige and Geoff Johns come together to honor Richard Donner

Thinking about it I should've put it in the Pre-Cinematic Universe thread since it is about Superman (1978)

The only recent poster they did that didn't suck was the Ragnarok one. They need to fire the 5th grader they currently have doing these.

That's an insult to 5th Graders.

A 5th grader would probably do it with crayon so it would at least be original art.

It would look better if his head actually meshed with his body. Slightly disappointed they didn't use an authentic African script from East Africa like the kinds they use to write Somali, instead of cool generic characters for the glowy bits, but that's just my preference rather than an actual nitpick.

The composition is good. The assembly and execution not so much.

Remember back when people were debating over why Tony could possibly have his helmet off in the Age of Ultron poster and somehow missed that Nick Fury and Widow were 2 feet tall?

Oh god yes. There was someone who flipped the fuck out about Iron Man not wearing his helmet for some reason.

re: the Black Panther "poster": I like how his face looks like he's thinking "I can't believe they actually put me in such a shitty photoshop; do they want this movie to fail?".

I don't think a shitty poster has ever hurt a movie. This franchise's continued existence is proof of that.

People don't care about posters anymore, only set photos and promo shots, trailers and clips, and Marvel knows it.
