Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I really hope Infinity War has a version of that scene where Tony tries to make Thor play ball with the aftermath of Civil War and Thor... strongly disagrees.
I don't.
Wouldn't really fit with the MCU Tony's half-assed commitment to the accords.
And also I want the team to come together in Infinity War, not beat Tony apart.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt would also constitute a massive character regression for Thor as well.
- Tony: We need you to be diplomatically conscientious of your actions.
- Thor: Screw you! The Prince of Asgard goes where he wants and hits whoever he wants! Being Thor automatically makes me above both laws and borders! Now where are some Jotuns I can smite?
I would kind of like that comic plotline to be alluded to by having Tony comment how he'd considered cloning Thor based on DNA lying around Stark Tower. And then after a Beat where everyone glares at him, he'd comment that he didn't do it, because that would be wrong.

Stark isn't a biologist. He wouldn't know where to begin cloning a person.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub."I knew this guy, Miles Warren, we were in the same book club. He said he was in the cloning field but then he got fired for inappropriate attraction to a student. Long story short, a lot of his book suggestions make a whole lot more sense now."
Forever liveblogging the AvengersExecutive Producer Nate Moore talks about what's next for Marvel.[1]
In typical "interview with someone in the business about the future" style, he doesn't really say much of anything. He's pretty good at it, too. Some people say "nothing" and accidentally say everything.
He does at least possibly confirm that going forward Marvel is more interested in new characters rather than specifically continuing the old characters' stories, but we basically knew that already.
Concept art showing how expressive Spider-Man's mask can get.
Meanwhile, Sony's executives are having this conversation with themselves:
Executive 2: Because we didn't care?
Executive 1: (sigh) Oh my god, that's right...

I don't think anyone cared about that. It's a nice mythology gag but I've literally never met someone who said "Wow, Spider-Man 2 was a great movie, but I can't in good conscience say I enjoyed it, because the eyes on the mask didn't move!"
Hannah John-Kamen has been cast in Ant-Man & The Wasp in a "key role"

They might have if he kept it on for more then ten seconds at a time.
Superhero masks are a catch-22 on film. Comics get away with using them as an Acceptable Break from Reality by making them expressive, allowing the character to emote through the sheet of fabric blocking their face.
On film, you either keep your character's features obscured for huge segments of story, preventing them from properly displaying expressions, or you remove their mask at the earliest opportunity so that they can emote to the camera. Now, cowls are a great way of avoiding this. Characters like Batman or Captain America don't have much trouble emoting through theirs, because their facial features are still legible.
Full-face coverings, on the other hand, are a nightmare. Iron Man cleverly worked around this with their in-helm shots, letting Downey emote while still keeping his helmet on most of the time he's suited up. Very well done.
Deadpool took a new approach and went, "F*ck it, what if we just let the mask make expressions like it does in the comic?" And it worked marvelously. It's nice to see Marvel trying their luck at that approach too.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Spider-Man's would be especially problematic in live action if it were kept 'static' as it doesn't even look particularly like a human face in as much as the eyes are much larger and whiter and of course have no pupils. It would be very hard to get much emotion out of that when it lacks the common human features we use to judge expression.
Having 'emotive masks' is probably something of a necessary weasel if they want to avoid Spidey or whoever losing their masks every thirty seconds (and from promo material even in Homecoming Pete/Spider-Man is going mask-less fairly frequently.)
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."RE Hannah John-Kamen, well given the dearth of supporting cast members for any iteration of Ant-Man, I'd guess either Janice!Beetle, Janet, or Darla Deering.
Although the latter would presumably be out for rights issues and she seems a bit young for Janet, even factoring in the microverse.
So I'm going to go with Janice!Beetle based on actress appearance and the fact that not only did the character appear in Nick Spencer's Ant-Man run, but her costume basically looks like a Palette Swap of a Wasp costume (not to mention the coincidental shared insect-motif) anyway.

Or just another Canon Foreigner. Everyone thought T.I. or Wood Harris were gonna end up being Bill in the first movie and they wound up playing two made-for-movie characters.

Chris Hemsworth remains a gift
.
Also interesting to note a War Machine figure is included. I think he's the only one there who was previously unconfirmed.
