Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think this is it.
EDIT: Don't see the problem with calling them chattering monkeys. They are being kinda goofy, especially when compared to how he was probably taught in K'un Lun.
I mean, maybe it's a little problematic because he says the line to a black guy.

My various fanfics.I wanted to punch Danny after that. And after he broke into Joy's house. And after he got into Ward's car and took him on a joy ride.
Danny is just really punchable and kind of douchey, naivety aside. I can't believe I'm saying this but I like Matt more than I like Danny.
Him saying it to a black guy is part of it.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I mean, I kinda get it. He's a guy trying to go home to a world where nothing makes sense anymore. Nobody believes who he is, his friends don't believe him, they think he's lying to them, they act angry to him. I get why he did what he did to Ward, because apparently Ward was always an asshole and Danny just snapped.
EDIT: And with the Dojo scene, again, I get it. Like, in his next flashback, we see Danny literally getting beaten bloody as part of his training. This is what he understands a Dojo is. It's not fun, it's not kid-around time. He doesn't understand learning martial arts for recreation or sport or self defense. For him, it's literally warfare.

My various fanfics.Hey, Jery! She's not being a piece of shit! Turns out all she needed was to lose literally everything because she was an awful person.
My various fanfics.Danny still came off as a douche in that moment. I dunno, he just sounded so fucking self righteous and pretentious not just in that moment, but in so many other moments. I've seen people compare him to a hipster who just came back from a trip to China, and he feels exactly like that to me.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I mean, if you call fifteen years a "trip". He was literally in K'un Lun longer than he was ever in America.
My various fanfics. He was definitely being an asshole in that scene. Racial subtext aside, he is being incredibly presumptuous by trying to bring K'un L'un style discipline somewhere it was not asked for.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhich I would've conceded to if we had any flashbacks to develop his time there or an actor who could actually fight and was prepared properly for the fight scenes.
Hell, the show undermines Danny's entire character so much that it just flat out admits he's pathetic.
Davos did nothing wrong and Danny is the worst Iron Fist ever. And K'un L'un is run by abusive idiots so screw them too.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Even worse than animated Ultimate Spider-Man vague surfer hippy Iron Fist?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI don't recall that because watching Ultimate Spider-Man made me bleed from my ears and eyes and screech dark syllables from forgotten languages.
But that is good to hear.

I just think that the problem most people have with Iron Fist is their own feelings about the whole Mighty Whitey stuff.
I, personally, don't see it. What difference does it make if he's white? Would you have a problem if he was latino? Would the "chattering monkeys" line wouldn't have been as offensive to you if he was black, or if the kid that he was facing while he said it was asian? Should Colleen be hindu to justify her (percieved) inferiority when facing Danny?
He's better than Colleen because he spent half his life getting Training from Hell, non-stop. He says that they are chattering monkeys because they're not taking him, her, or the art itself seriously. He, in fact, probably was scolded in the exact same way when he was a kid.
He doesn't know better. He thinks the rules of K'un L'un (spelling?) also work in the real world. It's established very early on the show when he goes to Colleen and he challenges her. He thinks that's how the real world works too.
We are making this more about his skin colour rather than the reasons he had to say what he said or the merit in actually being able to keep up with Colleen.

It makes a world of difference that the white guy is better at martial arts than the Asians who trained him and he becomes their protector.
Even then, the show beats us over the head that he's awful at his job. Danny is an idiot who doesn't know what the hell he's doing most of the time. Why is this white asshole the Iron Fist when he's a shitty fighter and an incompetent dumbass?

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

And then he immediately insults her students and acts like a complete douche.
