Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I pretty much saw the entire plot of Homecoming while waiting for Got G 2.
I was thinking recently about how the MCU abuses Floating Head Syndrome. Almost every movie has one, compare the primary GOTG poster to the GOTG vol. 2 one and despite a few different characters on the poster and slightly different color scheme they look identical. The teaser poster for both Homecoming and Vol. 2 were so much better and had so much more personality.
The second new Homecoming poster looks a lot better for just being cleaner and having more dynamic angles, although Iron Man still looks awkward.
You guys remember the first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok had a shot of the Grandmaster's VIP room?
Someone found a sneaky Easter egg regarding the wall in said room!
Just in general most blockbuster movies go for photoshopped characters in a particular setting, which renders them all same-ish. It's largely due to the trend of movie posters like Indiana Jones and Star Wars, but those have more of a painting look and they try to fit as much energy and personality into the frame of the poster as possible.
If you want your own Spider-Drone, it's a thing now
.
Alas, it does not fold up to become a logo on your shirt.
I'm a fan of floating head posters if only for how cheesy they are. I could see Guardians or something doing one in a retro, 70s B-Movie style and pulling it off. But yeah, this one takes itself a little too seriously.
I am a little miffed that we've kind of known from the start how Homecoming begins and ends and the trailers don't help that any, but I'm honestly okay with a standard Wake Up, Go to School, Save the World plot. I would prefer a limited Netflix series to a movie, but eh, flagship character blah blah blah, I get it.
"A king has no friends. Only subjects and enemies."Also not sure how much Spider-Manning you could get done on a Netflix budget.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThank you! I would have thought that Iron Fist would have finally dispelled the notion that CGI heavy properties should be on Netflix. I mean, Ao S did an excellent job with Ghost Rider and people STILL want him on Netflix, even though ABC is way better in handling this kind of stuff. I am hoping for a midnight sons show, either on ABC itself or one of the ABC related channels. And I had zero interest in Ghost Rider beforehand.
I liked the second poster. It really captures the feel of that time when Spider-Man was casually ripping up the landscape just outside the Triskelion while Iron Man passed by in his general direction, not wanting to make eye contact. Meanwhile, the Vulture plunged down to pick him up by his talons. He was close enough for Iron Man to see him, but Tony didn't really want Peter to know he was there so he just sort of let it happen.
He was really mad about his landscape.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

Midnight trailer!
