Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Jessica Drew debuted separately from Spider-Man comics and is primarily an Avengers character, right?
This song needs more love.Literally the only thing that Jessica Drew has that could conceivably connect her to Spider-Man is that her superhero alias has the "Spider-" prefix.
There are some who insist that's enough to qualify her as a Spider-Man character. I am not one of those. She is not in any way, shape, or form related to the Spider-Man franchise.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.She was created as an excuse to snatch up the Spider-Woman name after Spider-Man took off, but is otherwise unrelated. I believe the Spider-Woman hero name belongs to Sony, but Jessica Drew and everything else except that name are fully Marvel's.
So Sony can make a Spider-Woman movie about Mary Jane or Spider-Gwen or so on, but they can't make her Jessica Drew.
The closest connection I can think of is her Ultimate counterpart being a clone of Peter.
This song needs more love. It's not like the movies really care overmuch about code names anyway. Hell, they're often used as a joke, like Peter Quill's insistence on being called Star-Lord; ironically one of the few superhero code names that is actually justifiable in-universe, being an official title that makes sense in context once you meet his Comics Dad.
Point is, when characters do have an alias, there's usually a lot of work that goes into justifying them having it in the MCU. It's not just, "Hi, I'm a magnificent poof, you will address me as Spoon Man."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Honestly, thinking it over, I'm debating if Jessica Drew is a good fit for either the movies or the TV side. Jessica Jones is supposed to be an expy or her, right? It'd be interesting to see her cameo on one of the Netflix shows, maybe as a rival PI to Jessica Jones.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?"So what's your deal?"
"I have super strength."
"Me too."
"I don't hate myself or have crippling alcoholism."
"Huh. What's that like?"
My various fanfics."Why?"
Because the airport fight is exactly what it need it: it manage to broke the avenger into only 3 members(who just happen to be the EXACT ones for brutal confrontation) while giving him enought time to get into siberia and take the tapes, the whole thing just work if ONLY the three of them are there, if there is another avenger like Vision or Wanda they would trap Zemo or stop Stark right there
He didnt break the avenger, the Acords did, he just finish and already wound beast.
"Stark tries to kill Bucky, Rogers defends Bucky, each of them are defended by their friends, things escalate"
Nobody would follow Stark personal vendetta, have the team being there Vision and Scarlet would deal with him and the rest would take Zemo
" if it doesn't happen Zemo just moves to the next plan and does something else. That is the brilliance about the character, he adjusts to whatever the Avengers do."
Except is plan relies in hurting Stark and ONLY stark and he get the best posible way by something he didnt plan, is one thing adapting, is another to just the oportunity lie into you.
anyway, moving with mysterio:I will said the villian is better for a tv show with is love for theatric, a movie will be just to campy anyway.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Jess might be a bit too high-powered for Netflix's gritty, street-level atmosphere. She's a Flying Brick who shoots energy blasts and has mind-control pheremones.
On a good day, she could probably take the entire Defenders lineup simultaneously.
Also, you'd miss out on her being a Hydra WMD and the divided loyalties therein, which is where a lot of her story comes from.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub."I'm sorry, you have what?"
"I just use them tactically. It makes men super into me and women hate me."
"Oh, it's working."
My various fanfics.Hmm...Agents of SHIELD, then? On the one hand the very idea of Jessica Jones getting into a rivalry with another person named Jessica who is also a PI and slightly more adjusted is hilarious. On the other hand, it'd be gutting a character and changing them until they're barely recognizable compared to their comic counterpart.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Correct
◊. As someone else said, it likely comes down to the fact that regardless of the lack of in-story connection, she was still explicitly conceived and published for the purpose of having a female version of Spider-Man.
Do we have a better source on that than a snapshot uploaded to Imgur from part of a Word document someone made?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's from the Sony documents on Wikileaks from the hack
. It's an excerpt because well, the actual document is quite long and there are a bunch of them. Enjoy

Less powerful than Purple Man, but yeah. But mind control is always creepy, so what matters is how you use it. Professor X has mind control powers too, but he uses them responsibly. It could be very creepy if he abused them— on an unrelated note, go watch Legion if you haven't already— but he doesn't. As much as anything, having that power and not being corrupted by it is a big part of what makes the character so likeable. The other half, is of course, Sir Patrick Stewart.
So how did they address the elephant pheremones in the room for the two Jessicas' meeting up in the Alias comics? Is Jessica (Drew) one of the heroes Jessica (Jones) was friends with before she was ensnared by Kilgrave?

I think Sony is planning on a Black Cat and Silver Sable movie separate from the MCU like the Venom movie with Tom Hardy. It has more potential than a Venom movie, to be honest.
Anyone want to see Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman in the movies? I'm kind of confused about the whole rights thing with her but I'd be interested in seeing her in an Avengers movie or as a bit character in a film or something.
