Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

And Zemo and Ronan (yes, I enjoyed Ronan) and Killgrave and Kingpin and Dottie Underwood and Aida and Hydra in general (which has been an excellent villain in every movie and three seasons of Ao S)...
The MCU is full of different and interesting villains. The movies have a little bit more or a hard time to stick the landing, because of the shorter running time, but can we stop the "the MCU has no good villains" narrative? It provided some of the best villains we got in the last years.
Speaking of Villains, what are some ones you'd like to see in the MCU? Like I said in an earlier post, we'll likely get more down-to-earth villains (at least by comic book standards), so i'd like to see Mysterio (seriously, im surprised none of the movies have even tried using him), Gray Gargoyle, Ghost, The Wrecking Crew (though I dont know how you could use them to fill out a movie, maybe make them secondary henchmen or something), and Arcade (though again, im not sure if Murderworld could fill a 2 hour movie, but maybe we can just get a shorter film).
I've said this before, but I want Hammer and Anvil. A Deep South racist and a Scary Black Man who are forced to team up and eventually become Heterosexual Life-Partners is just a goldmine of comedic potential.
I know I've talked about Hammer and Anvil's introductory arc before, but I've never heard anyone else talk about it, so you can imagine my surprise when I found someone else talking about it.
The story is simultaneously worse than I remember (Hulk's new friend's name being Cracka-Jack Jackson) and better than I remember (Cracka-Jack teaching Hulk how to write). Overall, it's very dated but those parts can be easily updated and fixed, and there's a genuinely great story there.

I believe Arcade has been both a Spidey Villain and a Xmen one.
I remember when he first fought the Xmen, Spidey cameo'ed, recognized Arcade's MO, and then tried to warn the other, only to be a few minutes too late.
It was still pretty awesome to me for how he flipped his shit and completely wrecked the Phone Booth his was in at the time.
Though I do believe Arcade's probably better known for his fights with the Xmen than with Spiderman.
One Strip! One Strip!Marvel has a lot of characters who started one place and gravitated to another, or even are known for gravitating all the time. Imo, it's one of the big differences between them and DC (who tends more towards Superman Stays Out of Gotham, typically has characters cross only in self contained ways or in big events, and only has a small handful of characters who do it often).
It's something I wish the films would do more, but I suppose that's too expensive what with paying actors - even lesser paid ones - for a denser amount of appearances. Still, it's the reason why whoever ends up with the Fantastic Four rights, if they're interested in doing the character right, should cast a lesser known, less expensive actor as DOOM, rather than a big name they can't get a lot of use out of.
Indeed. Look at the Kingpin. Started as a Spidey Villain, but then he met that damned life wrecker Matt Murdock.
Sabertooth was an Iron Fist enemy at first.
And then there was the massive Rogues Gallery upheaval in...I guess the 70 or 80's or something.
Rhino and Sandman were fighting the Hulk and the Fantastic Four...wow. That's about it. Never mind.
One Strip! One Strip!I don't know how a Kraven's Last Hunt would work as a movie.
If its Kraven's first appearance then you don't get that 'oh shit he's serious this time'
You also get a story where Spider-Man spends large swathes of time buried alive and so does not appear very much in this Spider-Man story.
But if you promise me the Kra-Van I'll forget all of these objections and instantly be on board.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHence why I said "loosely based". If I were making it I'd have Kraven and Chameleon be on the hunt for someone they deem the "most dangerous game". They'd be less serious and more threatening, wanting to hunt Spidey for the thrill and glory of the hunt. And I really want Chamelon involved because I'm interested in the idea of Kraven and his brother working together.
And as somebody (can't remember if it was me or not) said, get Keanu Reeves as Chameleon.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Just came back from watching Guardians Vol. 2 because free admission passes aren't accepted by the theater I was going to until today. REALLY strong main villain. Marvel villains are usually the weakest part of the film (even if they're still great, and them being weak in comparison to the rest of the film is apparently intentional), but the main villain of this movie was one of the best aspects of a great movie, and may be one of my favorite MCU villains. The only downside was that I already knew they would be a villain, since Ego's always been a villain in the comics. My only gripe is that I felt it was a little too exposition-heavy, especially when they were expositing about things that were already covered in Guardians 1. I think it's easily just as good as Guardians 1, albeit in different ways.
