Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So I don't know if this belongs here or not: http://ew.com/movies/2017/05/19/tom-hardy-venom-spider-man-spinoff/
Tom Hardy is playing Venom in the upcoming Sony non-MCU movie.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I maintain that if they want to make money hand over fist, it's really simple:
Call Emma Stone. Announce that while Marvel is doing Peter, they're rebooting their own version of the Spider-universe from a new angle. Set a release date for Spider-Gwen. Print money.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.It weirdly occurred to me the other day that if you want to make a stand alone Venom movie you should reference what might be the best Venom story ever told
Except that would be the original Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle run
The dynamic between Khaji Da and Jaime is adjacent to what you want to aim for in a heroic Venom spinoff
You have an alien suit that doesn't understand why you can't just murder your problems away. And you have the host that's stuck trying to aim that energy in a productive direction. Like killing that monster Spider-Man!

Forever liveblogging the Avengers@Riri Williams
I don't find her compelling at all. She's Tony, only black, female, younger and smarter than him. She's a Mary Sue with no personality of her own at all.
Kamala, on the other hand, not only is compelling, but is a charming, Adorkable girl that's, let's be honest, THE Ascended Fangirl.

Kamala being introduced in Captain Marvel? Wasn't her entire origin somewhat based on her being a fan of Carol's? Her costume is the Ms. Marvel one with a conservative bent, reflecting a real life swimsuit conservative Muslims wear (I don't know the name off the top of my head).
As for Riri, yeah, the Marvel Universe doesn't need Mary Sue's. It'll be like that time they killed off all of Liefeld's one note filler characters like Sumo.

Plus, the only way that Riri is like Tony Stark is that she's as smart (or smarter) than him. Personality-wise and history-wise, she is vastly different.

The horrifying part is saying you want a character killed off because you think they're a Mary Sue. In my experience, almost every time somebody calls a character a Mary Sue is because they hate them. So yeah, I find it kind of horrifying to want a character dead because you personally don't like them.

Continue writing our story of peace.Even if I agreed that she were a Mary Sue (which I don't), I would never suggest killing off a character in favor of trying to make them better.
This song needs more love.

I was sad when he inexplicably stopped being in Kamala's supporting cast
