Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

So....since Ao S gets a fifth season, it also will reach the 100 episode mark...and man is that satisfying if you consider that the show was proclaimed dead early on and then it was said that it would only run until syndication. Take that, naysayers!!!!

Anyway, any ideas/wishes what should happen in the 100 episode?

They've gotta get someone from the movies, be it Nick Fury or Tony Stark or whoever.

This song needs more love.

@TargetMasterJoe: I'm sure it'll be entertaining, at the very least, but will I remember it a day later?

That's me with GotG Vol. 2 right now.

Just saw Got G 2. Not gonna say any spoilers, just that I found it be really, really good. The few problems I had with the first one were totally fixed in the sequel.

It was so good in fact that it highlighted how much Dr. Strange didn't work for me. Not that it was bad. It was entirely competent. And yet overall, it just wasn't very good. Everything felt rather derivative. The visuals were well done, no argument there. The third act was surprisingly strong. But I guess I just didn't care about the story being told. Mads Mikkelsen was wasted on this film. It felt like there was a ton of executive input. Chiwetel Ejiofor was probably the best part for me. His character was the only one that felt real. That goes down more to the writing than the performances.

And Dorothy Walker.

No Mother's Day for her, not even a "you tried" gold star.

So Tony is Ultron's mom? And Bruce is his dad and Thanos is his other dad that never pays child support?

And Loki is his dad, and Strucker is his dad, and JARVIS is his dad, and Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver kind of raise him in a way for a little while, and Amadeus Cho's mom built his body.

Avengers: Infinity War's composer, Alan Silvestri, says the movie "is Everything We Could Have Hoped For." Hype...rising.

A guy says a movie he is being paid to work on will be good? Holy shit.

I remember when Fan4stic was coming up, everyone involved was saying it was so much better than all those other, less meaningful superhero movies out there.

Only to... conspicuously change tracks somewhat after release.

It is however strange to see a composer saying this. Usually composers are quite silent on the movies they compose for. You rarely get anything like John Williams saying "The Force Awakens is dank hype my man".

Well, got some bad news:

Powers Boothe, who appeared for several episodes of Agents of SHIELD as Gideon Malick, passed away from natural causes at the age of 68.

He was also in The Avengers (he was part of the council).

Hopefully they will dedicate the next episode to him.

Also...why is it that actors who played Hydra members are the ones who keep dying? This is already the third....
