Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If your idea of helping your city involves going out at night to illegally wallop people while leaving your partner to handle all the legal work that actually does do good, I have to question if your intent is really all that altruistic. Luke also has the excuse of being a man on the run trying to stay low.

A totally other and kind of random thought: I really like that the MCU is making an effort to spread out a little bit. I mean, we still have a number of heroes living in New York, but let's be honest here, Spiderman, Daredevil and Luke cage have to be there, so Jessica Jones and Iron Fist have also be there for the team up. But Tony was living in Malibu (I think), Steve briefly in Washington and now we got Ghost Rider in LA and Cloak and Dagger in New Orleans (did they mention where New Warriors will be set?).
Awesome trailer. It does actually seem like Clare Temple is going to be the one to bring the team together and reports to the contrary weren't entirely correct. It's pretty clear she's the one making at least some of the introductions. In addition to what was explicitly shown, she's probably the one who tips off Matt about Jessica's legal troubles.

Collen Wing is at 1:35
for a moment. But I'm definitely hoping that her and Misty Knight cross paths in the Defenders.

Don't be turned off if the first few episodes don't suit your taste. It has a bit of the opposite problem the other shows have, where the first few episodes are awkwardly paced but the rest is great.
And holy shit, that trailer is everything I hoped Defenders would be.
"We make a great team."
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I hope literally everyone in Defenders' reaction to Danny, who is straight-up magical, is just "What the fuck?"
My various fanfics.I'm in the middle of the first episode, and I'm going so back and forth in regards to Danny's character. One the one hand, he's naive and kinda emotionally stunted to where it's kind of adorable, but on the other hand, he also breaks into Joy's house and kinda-sorta kidnaps Ward by stealing his car. I did like how emotional he got towards Ward in the car scene, but Jesus Christ, I keep going back and forth on kinda liking him to kinda hating him. His whole spiel in the car scene about how people were treating him with "nothing but hostility" really rubbed me the wrong way.
I know Ward is supposed to get a lot of character development later on in the series, but right now he just feels like a huge douchebag who I desperately want to punch in the teeth.
The fight scenes are...eh, I guess? Some obvious stunt doubles and Finn Jones looks kinda bored in some of the fights. As far as his acting goes, he's alright, I guess.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? They need to change Ward's name. We already have a Ward.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well, now. This is a good day. Jess meets Misty, Matt's back in court, scenes of Luke in prison, Claire getting the team together... Auspicious beginning. And Runaways! The kids look like the kids, right down to Molly's hat.
Iron F Ist gets off to a series of false starts. Almost nothing happens in the first five episodes. It gets better, but it's slow going throughout, even after the mid-season uptick. Danny never really solidifies, but character development helps the Meachums, and you are absolutely supposed to hate Ward.
While I do think Danny is kind of a dick in the beginning, I find it understandable. The man lost both of his parents and spent his childhood being turned into a Tyke-Bomb so when he finally gets a chance to reclaim his birthright he's repeatedly humiliated and spit upon. Anyone would reach their Rage Breaking Point.
He even tries talking normally with Ward (mild kidnapping aside), but then Ward pulls a pistol on him.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."OK, Harold Meachum just showed up and I fucking love him already. He's smug, confident, snarky, scheming, intelligent, I just love it.
I do kind of agree with that, but I still feel a bit annoyed at how Danny comes off a bit bratty. At the same time, I understand why he's like that and sympathize a bit. It's conflicting.

I guess if your expectations are low, the second half is not that bad...but then, I was in the "not THAT bad" camp originally, too, but this part of the Netflix shows gets only worse with every rewatch.
