Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There are ways around that. Speedsters can suck fliers down to the ground by running so fast it creates a tornado and they've long cracked the "hurting an invulnerable person" formula with shit like hitting someone a thousand times in an instant so that they're struck by the combined force of a thousand punches.
Substituting the ability to hit something multiple times in the blink of an eye for super strength has long been accepted for speedsters.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think we're going to get official confirmation, but I'd go along with the idea that AOU killed off Quicksilver specifically so that there wouldn't be two instances of the character running around (sorry) in prominent franchises at the same time.
I do wish they'd found a more awesome way for Pietro to go out, though. That whole scene is pretty predictable (for Whedon) and anticlimactic. He could've at least been killed by Ultron in a proper battle, instead of getting unceremoniously gunned down.
Alternatively, what if Pietro stayed a villain? Too late now, but that could've solved a few different problems.

Limiting someone with super speed to just super speed is probably the best way to keep them manageable. All those other powers Tobais last page mentioned don't have to be used in your story after all. Second thing to do is limit their top speed, but that's fairly obvious.
But I also prefer the idea that Quicksilver died to keep 2 different version of the characters from being in competing films.
Ao U Quicksilver seemed to also have the Logical Weakness of having to stop running every now and then to look at where the Hell he's going.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."True, he didn't necessarily seem to have super-reaction time. Not sure if he could think or see any faster than normal.

One of my favorite Super-Speed weaknesses was in an anime called Darker than Black. The super fast guy tries to run in a rainstorm and gets shredded by the rain for it.
We see that Pietro has super-reaction time when he grabs Mjolnir. He has time to notice the hammer passing him, consider it, and then reach out and grab it.
His limitation there was poor judgment skills.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Case in point during a fight with Wolverine II, Ultimate Quicksilver beats him by just holding onto him and running fast. Quicksilver has Required Secondary Powers that keep him from being hurt, while Wolverine gets shredded by the super fast wind.

He must also have some measure of super-strength to be able to punch through Ultron bots. Even Black Widow had to use shock batons.
If Quicksilver had a gun, Hawkeye and Cap would be dead the first times he surprised them.

That's true but you can't make everyone a flying brick. One thing that bugs me about the Flash show is that he never just runs in and cuffs the villain before they even realize he's arrived. He always gives them a chance to realize he's there and react accordingly.
