Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

These people are the worst possible people to form a team. They're anti-social as it gets. Killing off their one mutual friend would give them a surefire reason to truly put their differences aside.
To be honest, I don't find Claire that valuable either. She's amusing, mostly. But she has very little dramatic arc and the one thing I felt they could have truly used her for (becoming a legit Night Nurse character for the MCU), they have more or less refused to do.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I really don't see Claire as being that important, so I say out with her. Nothing against her, but she's easily one of the most "meh" characters in the Netflix shows. Also, she has served her narrative purpose, which is to be the link that unites them all. I don't see her character having any more going on with her other than being dead or staying as a lesser recurring character that heals the heroes.
Also, if her absence from The Punisher show is any indication, she's probably gonna die.

Still have to get around to watching Daredevil but I quite enjoyed her in Luke Cage. She can stay on as the resident base of command who fixes them up after battles and also kicks ass on her own if need be. Also to act as a liaison between the heroes and regular civilians like Coulson. She's not flashy or has the most prominent and plot-crucial arcs but she's definitely not disposable either.
I would never call Claire meh. She's a very complete human being, someone who knows what she wants and what's right. I'm worried they will kill her off for all the reasons Gaon is saying, but I really hope they don't. Her being alive and having to fight to keep these knuckleheads together is so much more satisfying than her being fridged for motivation.
I have absolute faith that Rosario Dawson could make that work as an actress, and I suspect an actress of her caliber might not want to be tied up in television, but I still really want Claire to live.
It would be stupid to kill her....that would more or less mean that none of the Defenders (especially Matt) can't hurt himself (or herself) anymore, because than nobody is there to put them together again.
Honestly, Danny should just hire her as stand-in nurse, put together some sort of mini-emergency station for her and perhaps add a stipend so that she can study medicine properly when she isn't busy stitching them up.
Also, the ending feels weirdly like a cross between the climaxes of Man Of Steel, and Evolution.
Like, with less death, but I got a really quite strong Man Of Steel vibe to where I think it was an actual direct inspiration. I've never seen two beings of that level of pure power just throwing themselves at one another in pure berserk rage, unfettered by any kind of restraint, outside of that.
What I mean when I say that she's "meh" is that she has no significant weight in the plot nor she has that much of an interesting arc to begin with. Yes, she might act as The Heart of the group, but beyond that there's not much else that she brings to the table. And the whole "normal person mixed with a bunch of superpowered/abnormal individuals" would come full circle with The Defenders anyway.
I mean, they could replace her with any other nurse, or with one hired by Danny (who's, you know, a freakin' billionaire, who could afford top tier medical assistance with confidentiality).
Ok, I might be a little hard on Claire, but if she were to be relegated to a lesser recurring character or died altogether the shows would hardly suffer for it. Just as the movies didn't suffer from Coulson's absence.
Also, why are you people posting spoilers for GOG, Vol. 2 if the movie hasn't even come out yet, as far as I know. Please stop?

Claire is entertaining but just that. And her shtick of "normal person in the middle of a mess" is fun, but it starts to get a bit odd at times (like Iron Fist where she finds a good idea to accompany two master martial artists in a mission to fight super ninjas who she has seen demonstrate supernatural abilities).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

I sincerely doubt they're gonna kill off Claire.
Besides being super-popular, she plays important roles in Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist's individual shows, so killing her off in Defenders would leave them unable to use her in those shows.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
