Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

There's a brilliance at work because the song uses Norse Mythology as its primary lyrical focus
.
There's a shot from Skurge firing two rifles midway through that's also straight-up lifted from Simson's run
◊.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Thor's Big "YES!" caught me off-guard.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! The font looks like an 80s videogame
So I hope there's a retro videogame tie in
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt feels like they're properly tapping into Thor's potential as the fun Boisterous Bruiser this time. Whedon's attempts kinda felt one-note and tryhard in the scheme of things, but between the Daryl shorts and the teaser they're actually landing.

Actually, that reminds me of an interesting post I saw on Tumblr that discusses how he writes Natasha (and to a lesser extent, Steve and Tony) somewhat out of character compared to the other movies.
Granted, it's more from a feminist perspective, but I still find it interesting.
Here it is, for those who are interested
.
The article you just linked is one of the good ones in this regard, but I think a lot of it just comes down a big old case of Depending on the Writer that's particularly noticeable in Whedon's case because of his particular style and "quirks". Also I find it strange a lot of people accuse him of writing Natasha out of character for traits he codified in the first place with the first Avengers movie, as well as complaining about him having a grudge sabotaging Clintasha out of spite against other writers when he was the one who originated Clintasha Ship Tease in the first place.
I don't know if he's necessarily writing her out of character so much as her having evolved in the hands of other writers since then and Whedon treating those future developments as a case of Fanon Discontinuity which is in character with his original vision of her, which is a much more legitimate complaint. Like, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of stuff to complain about with Whedon but sometimes it sounds like attacking the egg for laying the chicken, and a lot of the time it's just inarticulate Fan Dumb and angry shippers being salty and relying on The Discourse to legitimize opinions post hoc rather than the other way around.
To this day tons of people are still spitting on him and accusing him of being an honest-to-goodness rightwinger and rejecting his anti-Trump GOTV video as insincere and a slap in the face because of what he did to Clintasha. Christ on a fucking cracker.

I can understand being annoyed by people taking your idea and running in a different direction with it, but you can't disregard those changes in a collaborative work like this. The experiment of the MCU falls apart if those involved can't commit to the grand vision of a single seamless universe.
Not that it's really seamless, but hey, they're trying.
I actually felt that the Natasha/Bruce relationship didn't work mostly because of the Hulk nearly killing Natasha in The Avengers. So he was mostly inconsistent with himself. Apparently because he felt that there was a spark between those two actors. But they were both given a disservice with this storyline.

Oh my God. This movie looks like it's going to be amazing!
When we're done, there won't be anything left.
