Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Said this on the Justice League thread, but I think it works here too— I'd like to see more superhero movies focus on a day-in-the-life format, where you don't focus on any one villain, but rather the hero and city's reaction to them. It doesn't have to be a single day (or One More Day), but just focus on the hero's life and the effect it would have on their loved ones. I suggested it for Superman, but I think it could work just as well if not better with Spider-Man. He has a lot of great villains, but they're harmless to some degree, at least compared to his heavy hitters like the Goblin or Kingpin. But a lighthearted hero can really work with a lighter script. In Spider-Man's case you can play up the comedic slapstick elements, and that really works for him.
To be fair, by the time of TDK, Joker had shown up in one movie of the Tim Burton series.
Compare this to Spider-Man: Goblin has been a primary antagonist in three Spider-Man movies (Spider-Man 1, Spider-Man 3 and the Amazing Spider-Man 2). It's a tad played out by this point.
If you ask me what Spider-Man desperately needs is an adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."So a Spider-Man movie where Spider-Man spends a large amount of runtime buried alive?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah they'd need to tweak things for Kraven's Last Hunt. The story as of itself has some difficulties in being adapted, primarily because the cornerstone of the story is that this is Kraven's last hunt. I.e His long string of failures have caused them to shatter apart mentally, so he's now going on the warpath for the last time, no holds barred. It's his swan song. It doesn't impact as much (and the overall story doesn't make as much sense) if it's his first showing, so things will have to be worked around.
As for Mysterio, I love him as well and think he'd be fantastic as a spidey villain. I only imagine if they would adapt some of his arcs in the comics (his most famous being the one he convinces Spidey he shrunk down to the size of a doll) or go with something wholly original.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."If they do Mysterio, they need an actor who can be as over the top ham as possible. Maybe Nicolas Cage or something. I'm not even joking, Nicolas Cage as Mysterio would be fucking great. Put him in the fucking fishbowl helmet and have him act as Nicolas Cage-y as possible.
If they ever do Kraven the Hunter though, I want Chameleon in there. Maybe have the plot be both of them hunting Spider-Man or something.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Back during the days of the Raimi films there was a popular theory Bruce Campbell (who showed up in every Raimi Spider-Man movie in a cameo) was actually Mysterio in disguise and he'd be the villain of Spider-Man 4.
Now that boat has sailed but since then I can't shake off the feeling Bruce Campbell would make a pretty good Mysterio. Though I'd be on board with Nicolas Cage as well.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Or maybe Nicolas Cage could be the Mandarin:
But yeah just let him be Mysterio. He'll jump at it.
Toss in Keanu Reeves as Kraven (of course the ultimate game hunter is none other than John Wick, of course).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Keanu would probably be better as Chameleon, to be honest. I expect Kraven to be hammy and loud with a thick Russian accent. Chameleon should have barely any lines (or none at all) and come off as stoic and quiet. Would make a good contrast if they have both of them in the same movie.
Did the comics ever really focus on Chameleon and Kraven's relationship that often?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I want to note that they don't need to pick only one villain to make the movie work. They just need to pick only one plot thread. Winter Soldier proved you can have as many as five villains and not become a jumbled, shitty, stupid mess like ASM 2 and SM 3 were. The trick is that all of the villains served the same narrative thread. There was only one story being told, and each villain served a facet of that story.
The mistake the Spider-Man movies keep making is that they don't just want multiple villains, they want each of those villains to be equal. Each villain has his own story that needs to be served and the movie winds up divided in trying to make these 2-3 separate bad guys each into his own unique and special snowflake.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Seems Homecoming may avoid that pitfall based on the revealed infos
Forever liveblogging the AvengersShe was one of Peter's college girlfriends but the one that he was the most a scoundrel about
He took her for granted, showed up bloodied on her doorstep and refused to explain himself, and eventually sorta drove her insane
She was largely forgotten until she popped up in the post Civil War identity reveal era to write a smear book about him.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersPeter needs a strong willed romantic partner because he can be quite callous about walking all over someone of the other sort

I actually expect to see the green goblin eventually, just not as the first villain. If the MCU can built-up to the Winter soldier, it can certainly allow the Osborns to develop step by step.
