Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Turns out Tony Stark actually had the copyright to the name.

So Tony stole the name from someone else, copyrighted it, and put those other dudes out of business then?

Looks like Tony Stark messes everything up again.tongue

Now that the Ferry scene has context, I guess Maguire is still stronger.

*nods* I'm glad that's how MCU Spider-Man handled that situation. Quick thinking, not just brute strength.

Personally, I'm glad.

When I saw the Ferry scene in the first trailer, it seemed like a fragrant example of "Sequel Escalation", because apparently the writer was saying, " if the spiderman of Raimi could stop a train, then the new Spiderman can with a Ferry."

But thanks to the context, I see that they did not decide to follow that route.

Welp, that confirms Vulture's not going to survive this movie. He saw Peter maskless.

Minor detail but I love that Cap is wearing his crappy Avengers 1 suit in the video.

[up]Shit, yeah, that's awesome. Good catch.

And even if Adrian Toomes dies, the suit could live on. I'd actually like it we got some legacy characters running around with Whiplash's whips, or one of the other Yellowjackets. Maybe the Tinkerer could have them.

And I still really want to see those concept drawings of Zola come to life somewhere.

Zola would be absurdly easy to bring back. As for Yellowjacket, there was a female Yellowjacket who was part of Zemo's Masters of Evil. Maybe they could introduce her and have her take another prototype of Cross' suit.

Everyone's already said this, but having actually seen him in the role it's pretty cute that they got Michael Keaton as Vulture. It feels like a really inspired casting choice.

I'm actually somewhat impressed that they apparently have a movie releasing this Summer that they don't even have a released title for.

As for Captain Marvel, did that push anything else back?

Now that it is confirmed that Captain America makes a cameo in Homecoming, it is now official that Chris Evans will have played Steve Rogers/Captain America at least once in a film from 2011 to 2019.

[up][up]After it was pushed back for Ant-Man and The Wasp it was set to release in March but Disney's new slate has it at Winter 2019.

It actually looks like it's still in March of 2019 — If you notice, Ant-Man and the Wasp takes place in Summer 2018, but then it goes Fall (of 2018) and Winter and then above that 2019 — but logically after Fall of 2018 would come Winter of 2018, so Captain Marvel should be situated in the beginning of 2019. It looks like someone just made an error with the graphic and moved "2019" above "Winter."

What, January through March doesn't count as Winter?
