Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I mean, I'm fine with the occasional female gaze, but hot damn is Charlie Cox a handsome man. I think I've got a bit of a crush on him now.
Also, I'm starting to understand the dissonance now in the season. The stuff with Frank Castle? Awesome, his interactions with Karen are great and Foggy doing shit as a lawyer is fun. The stuff with Elektra and Matt gallivanting off to mess with the "Yakuza" who I know are gonna turn out to be The Hand? Kind of boring. I'm not as invested in it, and they've already shown the only white guy in the Hand, so...yeah, I'm gonna be fucking angry by the end of this. They had a good opportunity to show both Frank Castle and Elektra as dark mirrors into Daredevil's character, and I am not looking forward to when they inevitably go into full on yellow peril mode.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?It would've been better if they updated the Hand to be more like the Yakuza, and held onto that for a bigger part of the season. That one fight scene in the apartment with the bleached-blonde assassins? The sleeker, glossier production of episodes five and six, as a contrast to the gritty, bloody warzone look we had for the Punisher, Kitchen Irish, and the Dogs of Hell? That could've been pretty great. They just didn't push it far enough.
Instead they went full ninja, black-clad hordes with throwing stars, in 2017. Maybe if they could've gotten a hundred guys who were all actually trained martial artists to participate in those fights, maybe if they choreographed a few sweet multi-person parkour sequences, maybe that could have redeemed it, but since they were just a faceless horde of stormtroopers who couldn't do anything but charge at Daredevil with their swords in the air using the Stock Ninja Run, it just feels thrown-together, tossed off and out of place.

Yeah, that's pretty sweet. I really like it.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Honestly, it wasn't even the ninjas which bothered me...I can roll with a LOT of stuff. What I disliked was the lack of clear rules (again, thank god for Iron Fist clarifying some of the basics) and clear goals. We have still a literally plot hole in the middle of New York city, with no explanation whatsoever what the point of the thing is. That thing alone makes Daredevil 2 my least fav of the Netflix seasons so far, no matter how strong it started.
Love, love, love that poster.
1. It is unusual, from the motive to the tilted angle. It just draws in attention. 2. I love the details, like the midtown high jacket and the Avengers tower in the background. 3. It is sooooo Spider-man.
Honestly, did they hire a new marketing team? For years they had those boring floating heads but now we suddenly get posters I actually would put on my wall if not for the fact that I have sworn to myself to not buy posters anymore.....
Kevin Feige, hire this man!
That's much more generic. Spider-Man hanging off a building. God knows we've never seen that before.
It being Avengers tower is new, but that's not enough from saving it from just being more of the same.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I do remember her. The Hand being mostly Asian isn't really the problem, though— being a bunch of faceless stereotypes is the sticking point. And honestly, the stereotyping actually bothers me less than them just being boring. There's a lack of characterization compared to the other gangs we've seen— they all play to stereotypes in some way, but if you're going to give over half a season to the Hand, you've got to understand that devoting hour after hour to slowly unspooling the mystery of the unspeaking ninja hordes just isn't a good fit for a series that thrives on strong characterization.
They could've at least made the fights with the Hand more visually interesting and inventive, but they're among the show's worst. Feels like they ran into some hard deadlines or something.
I just randomly came across these bloopers
from the first X-Men movie. The Spider-Man gag is like 100 times more funny today than when the movie was made.

... Go on
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
