Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Doesn't matter if it was retconned later.
The creators of Spider-Man thought it was perfectly nifty for him to fight aliens in the second issue of his comic book.
And he does get involved in a lot of communist and alien plots even besides that retconned thing. The Venom symbiote. Firelord. Being cloned, repeatedly. Voyages to the Savage Land. Et cetera.
Spider-Man sits at the top of street level but he visits outside it so much. So, so much.
He basically has a time share in the cosmic level neighorhood or whatever you'd call it there. Three times a year he can go there any time he wants.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI so want them to reference the Thanoscopter. I don't care if it doesn't make any sense.
This song needs more love.Street level is a genre thing (a lot of the street level finagling comes from people mistaking it for a power level thing), so it's unsurprising to get characters with a lot of range in both being street level and not being street level. Most characters whose plots primarily take place in urban areas are going to be street level at least in part, except when there is a conscious effort to ensure they aren't (like how Superman barely ever interacts with Metropolis itself, but rather its most prominent citizens).
Batman, for example, is extremely street level in his home series because the Batman series his very noir inspired, to the point where even thematically most of his enemies don't work well in the greater DC universe and likely wouldn't even if they were more powerful. Batman works fine outside of Gotham, though, because his skills and temperament allow him to contribute and be interesting when facing basically anything the writers can throw him at (which isn't to say that "ensemble" Batman and "main series" Batman aren't written very differently, mind).
There are few characters who can switch as effortlessly between street level and other threats as Spider-Man, though. The best equivalent I can think of over at DC is Black Lightning.

Finished Iron Fist.
Finale was good, especially him Iron Fisting the floor and blowing all the glass out of the building in slo-mo.
Also I guess cremation counts for perma-killing a Hand immortal. R.I.P. in Pepperoni, Harold Meachum. I wonder if he resurrected several times WHILE being incinerated.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Nope he captured the Avengers and it was Spidey and the Thing who went and busted them out. The cover was Thanos about to beat a motherfucka with another motherfucka
◊.
Spider-Man has a foot in the door of every corner of the Marvel Universe. He's Marvel's team-up star. That's actually one of the advantages he has as a character: he's been everywhere, he knows everyone, he's done everything. No matter what kind of story you're telling, you can justify Spider-Man being present, because part of his shtick is just showing up where he ought not to be and going, "Hey guys, whatcha doing? Fighting evil? Sweet, I'm joining!"
It doesn't matter if it's a mugger, an alien invasion, a legion of Frost Giants, or the army of Hell. Spider-Man doesn't know how not to get involved.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.- Thor: When and how did you get here?
- Spider-Man: Great responsibility, yo!
Photos and bts footage of the chase scene in the Black Panther movie[1]

Spider-Man is an edge case for street level anyway.
His second issue had him fighting aliens trying to sell secrets to the commies.
