Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I could actually see Evans retiring just because more than anyone, he seems to have had the hardest time getting to do smaller or more dramatic roles because marvel keeps eating up all his time. He's alluded to this a few times in the past.
The fans are a very small fraction of the movie going audience
But I haven't heard much vocal hate and some people are jazzed about her
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe only controversy regarding Riri that I know if came about because an artist drew her overly sexualized and fans were pissed about that.
Which, as controversies go, is actually a pretty good sign about her reception.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Civil War was a burning dumpster fire in the comics but they were still able to salvage it into a watchable movie, so it wouldn't be that big a hurdle anyway.
A Rescue movie is probably a no-go given that Paltrow hasn't appeared since Iron Man 3, and even then she said she felt she was getting too old to do these kinds of movies anymore.

I thought I heard something about her only having one movie left in her contract, which was why she wasn't in Civil War. They didn't want to waste what may be her last film on a minor role in Cap's movie or something like that.

Shhhhhhh, don't tempt Fate like that.
Also, no idea who Taraji P. Henson is, but I already see her being Monica Rambeau.
Also also, you guys know how Sony announced a Venom movie a few days ago? I recall reading they wanted it to be separate from Spider-Man (*cough-cough*bullshit*cough*), so why is Venom an entry in the MCU's main page?
Or maybe we should leave it there in case Sony makes an official statement that basically boils down to "Did we say Venom was going to be separate from the MCU? Uh, we meant to say that Venom will totally be part of the MCU. Yeah."
I guess hypothetically you can do a Venom separate from Spider-Man
Gonna have to scramble a bit to justify him being a bigger, beefier copy of Spider-Man's powers if Spidey never wore the suit
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt could work, actually. Most of Spider-Man's powers that Venom has are pretty sensical. Strength and speed, easy. Climbing walls? He's a goop monster with claws, that isn't hard. Even the webbing can just be replaced with symbiote tendrils like it already is; it just looks like webbing.
Venom's connection to Spider-Man is more of a nerf than a benefit, honestly. Part of what makes Carnage so formidable is all the creative shit he does with his symbiote, which Venom doesn't because he's so busy aping Spider-Man.
EDIT: And if they want to keep the Spidey connection, just give the symbiote to Flash and say that he imitates Spider-Man because that's his hero.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I'm really hoping they don't do recasting or legacy characters once the actors start leaving. Movies are not like the comic books, where you can have dozens of titles running simultaneously. Putting out three movies a year is probably the most Marvel can do without dangerously oversaturating the market. So, going forward, the only way movies starring new characters can fit into the schedule is if some of older characters stop having new movies come out.
If Marvel had decided to make an Incredible Hulk sequel in Phase Two, we probably wouldn't have gotten Guardians of the Galaxy. And if they'd decided to make another Iron Man movie in Phase 3 without Robert Downey, Jr., then something else in the lineup would have to be dropped to make room for it. And that would honestly be a shame.

Maybe. But considering the guys they allegedly got (it's still early in the year, things may change), I doubt they'll be able to do that in a way that will gel well with everybody.
Honestly, I'm just waiting for the day Kevin Feige slaps some sense (preferably in the literal sense) to whichever Sony executive came up with the idea and go "Hey. You knuckleheads want Venom, we do it my way, capisce?"

He doesn't get to do any "slapping" unless Venom was already covered by the pre-arranged deal. Sony still controls the franchise.
Wrong company.
Yes agreed. Two black people is enough.

Because people on this site repeatedly jump the gun and make edits to the pages without any sources or evidence. I can't count the number of times I've deleted entries because people either put A) rumors or supposition or B) stuff from the comics that may not be true in the movie-verse to the pages.
Tell me about it. I remember when Winter Soldier aired a week early in Europe, all the AoS pages were covered with "and obviously this character is HYDRA." None of them were.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.A consistent one that was listed in several different entries (I think even after it was deleted the first time) was that Infinity War Part I would star an entirely brand new team of Avengers, and that the original 6 Avengers would only show up to finish the fight in Part II. Nobody in any official capacity ever said this, but for some reason it was being treated as gospel by a certain poster.
And when Civil War was first announced somebody jumped the gun and put that both Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo would be in it as well.
And then most recently, when it was announced Nathan Fillion had a cameo in GOTG Vol. 2 on a poster as Simon Williams, somebody jumped the gun massively and listed him as part of the main cast and had tropes related to the character in the works page, as though he was actually joining the team and appearing as a major character.

Tony might not quit, but he is the type to change roles if the need arises.
