Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Contracts are a one-way street. Just because you sign a ten-picture contract with a studio doesn't mean they are actually obligated to put you in ten pictures. It just means you're obligated to show up for ten pictures if they call you.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.So, I am just taking a break after having seen the first six episodes of Iron Fist...which is kind of difficult to do, I really want to know what will happen next, but I wanted to put together a first impression based on what the reviewers have seen.
In short: The reviewers are right about it starting slow. They are also right about the hallway scene not working as well as in the other Netflix shows. I can also understand why some reviewers found Danny annoying....I don't feel the same way, but I can see cynic people seeing it this way (but that is an essay in and off itself).
Otherwise I can't disagree more with the reviews. Yes, the first three episodes could have easily been two episodes (they REALLY overuse the same set of flashbacks in the beginning), but once all relevant characters are introduced, the show takes off running. I think it does suffer a little bit from the Netflix setting - another channel would have allowed more comedic elements imho - but I really, really enjoy trying to figure out the different characters. You never know if a character is a villain, just an antagonist or perhaps not as bad at he seems to be. The show expertly sidesteps a number of clichés in this regard. And I also enjoy the majority of the fight scenes. They rarely overstay their welcome, but above all, I really like that Danny's movements aren't unnecessarily flashy. That one actually surprised me, because I felt that they didn't look very impressive in the trailers, but if you see the whole thing in context, the result is a very down to earth not one move too much fighting style of the kind we next to never get to see on the screen, where everyone feels the need to flip and flop around.

Yeah, it isn't really until Pops dies that he actually starts kicking names and taking ass. That being said, I did enjoy its start. I'm pretty patient when it comes to buildup, and it helped establish Luke as a normal person before establishing him as a superhero, which is an important order to do things in when your character doesn't want to be a superhero.
Anyway, I watched the first episode of Ferrous Balled Forelimb Extremity, and I'm finding it enjoyable so far. I can already tell I'm gonna like Colleen (as most people seem to do in the reviews), and I actually enjoy the corporate intrigue. I just hope the fight scenes pick up the pace a little, I'm a sucker for flashy fights (which is why Daredevil is still my favorite so far).

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! You can't really compare this....mostly because in the beginning, there isn't really someone for Danny to fight for. But he isn't as inactive as Luke either. I can say that overall the slow pace in Iron Fist feels very deliberate...it is not like Luke Cage, where it often seemed as if the show made a detour to fill some time before the next pivotal moment. Or like Daredevil when the show is meandering around with the hero running left and right but no real purpose attached to it.

So it's a slow build and I can watch this and Lucha Underground on Netflix over the weekend.

working with Stallone's character.
Oooo. His Lex Luthor on Smallville was amazing. I'm so glad to see we've got him in the MCU now.

Tony will never quit until he is satisfied that the world will be in safer hands than his own. And Tony will never find hands that he's willing to consider safer than his own.

I'm glad it looks like Black Bolt may be the outlier.
