Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

One possibility of Thor Ragnarok, is a unexpected "Plot Twist" in the end of second act.

Hela: Odin never told you what happened to your daughter Leha.
Loki: He told me enough! He told me you killed her!
Hela: No. I am your Daughter Leha.
Loki: No... that's not true! That's impossible!
Hela: Search your feelings. You know it to be true.
Loki: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Well, Hela did have a handmaiden named Leah who turned out to be the actual personification of her hand (get it? handmaiden?), so she disappeared when Hela got her hand back. And then Kid Loki created a new version of Leah from writing in a magic book and then this Leah was sent into the far past where she grew up to become Hela.

So, yeah, technically Kid Loki is Hela's dad.

Hard not to when the inspiration was famous for getting pregnant by a magical horse.

Loki didn't get pregnant from a magical horse, it was just a regular horse that he had to lure away. He did, however, gave birth to a magical horse (Sleipnir).

Whom Odin then appropriated to be his personal steed.

And people wonder why Loki wants to enslave/destroy mankind.

Honestly, we need a scene with Loki going al WTF at Norse mithology.

It was basically the original fan fiction.

[up]Well you know how things get exaggerated.

I need Loki reading some of these old tales on the mythology and going "...wut?".

No, I want a scene where someone asks Thor/Loki about Norse mythology and he confirms that almost all of it is 100% accurate.

Maybe in this movie confirm the bisexuality of Loki. (Or pansexuality)

According to the statements of Cate Blanchett, Hela has been imprisoned for thousands of years.

I think this eliminates any possible relationship with Loki, considering that she was imprisoned from before he was born.

[up] Someone else already did the Rita Repulsa joke, but yes, it seems she is of her own accord as opposed to having a past with Loki.

Terry Notary is playing Thanos' right hand bad guy in Infinity War. I guess the Black Order will be in the film.

Well, he had to get a new one after Ronan broke Wesley's neck.

I'm sure his legal counsel was more than happy to send a replacement.

I'd love to have seen Joss Whedon create a superhero franchise from the ground up, with Wolfram & Hart literally representing mad titans from space.

Interview with Tessa Thompson about Valkyrie in Thor:Ragnarok.

Interesting, it seems like this take on Valkyrie will make her The Lad-ette or a Boisterous Bruiser figure. And she's still an Asgardian in this as opposed to a Vanir like Hogun or something.

Same here, plus it would explain stuff like why she's got armor less elaborate than the Asgardians normally have, besides just fleshing out the Nine Realms a bit more.

I'm more interested by the description that she's "hiding out" on Sakaar. What/who from Asgard is she running from?
