Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I was a big fan of What We Do in the Shadows and it looks like they're leveraging that and Hemsworth's own acting skills. It will certainly be different.
They mentioned she does wear the crown and they're using CGI on it. I'm assuming this is just Marvel's grand tradition of having characters not wear headgear on the posters.

Except for the fact that the show hasn't come out yet. I would gladly accept your opinion if it was your opinion (i.e. you had actually seen it and hated it) and not the opinion of others.
Again, this is like people criticizing Agents of SHIELD for being boring without actually watching it and only reading reviews of the first six episodes.

As noted, there was already discontent with the show well before anyone had actually seen it. That the first six episodes have been reviewed as bland and uninteresting is just icing on the cake.
Honestly, people probably wouldn't be taking this much schadenfreude over it if we hadn't been hearing since day one, "Don't criticize the casting! You're not allowed to criticize it until it's out! You can't PROVE that Danny doesn't rip off his mask five minute in and become Jackie Chan! It's probably going to be so good that it immediately absolves it of all criticism! Just wait until it's out and stop whining!"
Well now people who have seen it are also saying it's shit, so that's just fun.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Oh, you are absolutely able to criticize the casting. I was one of them, too. I wanted an Asian-American Iron Fist. Because the casting is something you are actually able to see.
But as soon as you say "The writing and acting are shit!" without actually seeing the show, that's something else.
If your complaint about the show was solely based on the casting, fine. If your complaint about the show is that it's terrible and you haven't seen the show, well, again, that's something else completely.

Reviewers aren't like these magical gospel prophets of public opinion. It's entirely possible and valid to disagree with the reviews, much like how critics can (and should) frequently disagree with each other.
I mean, I don't really expect to differ with them much myself based on the consensus we've got so far or my own lukewarm response based on the previews, but I'm still going to check out the show for myself. I don't really hold out much hope personally, but if others do, then that's fair enough. You don't need to be so confrontational about it.

How about this - I haven't seen the show, but what I've heard doesn't fill me with confidence.
Though granted, out of all of the Netflix shows, Iron Fist was the one I was least interested in...

I'm probably gonna binge the Marvel Netflix shows before The Defenders is released, so I'm gonna wait and give my opinions later. As for Iron Fist, every bit of good faith, no matter how little, I had for it keeps dropping. The reviews make me feel like it'll be supremely shitty, and while I want to wait and see all of the show before formulating my own opinion, I'm not confident in it being any degree of good.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Here's an interesting review
: Danny Rand is Marvel’s Dumb, Idiot Man-Child Batman''."
It really sounds like they are trying to do something different with Danny, portray him as a lot more naive than the other Defenders, which may or may not work. Colleen Wing, however, sounds awesome:
It also does sound like the show is going for a much slower burn than the other shows, so the second half might be much better.
Oh and this review actually liked the hallway fight, even if it was one of the few fights that was interesting:

Hey, folks. I know it's tempting to use poor reviews and negative buzz to launch into tirades against creators and generally proclaim a work to be crap, sight-unseen, but it's also toxic to quality conversations. I'm throwing this out there because it's preferable to having to sort through several pages of posts to see which merit thumps.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

They've concept art of it so maybe she'll have it on at some point.
