Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The relationship between Steve and Tony is more complicated that a friendship. From Tony's perspective Steve is the guy his father never shut up about, in a way the ideal Tony always had to live up to. Remember, Howard considered both Steve and Tony his creation. And just as Tony as found some closure with his father by understanding him a little bit better Steve turns up and basically tells Tony that he is worth nothing. This scene in The Avengers when they encounter each other the first time has to sting, but from Steve's perspective, Tony isn't the kind of lovable rogue, but an egoistic child because he sees him based on the conventions of his own time. Plus, he has to compare Tony to Howard. Tony giving up the leadership role to Steve and Steve respecting him as a hero at the end of The Avenger was huge. And then The Winter Soldier happened, the team reassembled and spend more than a year fighting Hydra. That does built a bond and then Ultron happened. In a way, Tony agrees to the accords not just because of Pepper, he also wants to please Steve, and the only thing he gets is his disapproval. And then he realizes that his "hero" who supposedly didn't have a dark side kept something huge from him.
The reviews for Iron Fist are in, and hoo boy, they aren't good

We will have to wait and see...in the end, the writers are just as if not more important than the actual show runner.
I admit, I am still a little bit peeved that they picked such inept writers for Doctor Strange. This movie could have been amazing, but the writing really pulls it down on the middle-tier level when it comes to Marvel movie. Thankfully the actors are excellent and able to carry the weak script.
I haven't seen any positive buzz so far, so yeah, not really excited now.
Some minor plot details from Ragnarok

People were nervous about having Scott Buck on for a reason, it sucks because I really liked Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
At least the costumes seem pretty decent for Thor Ragnarok. Cate Blanchett looks great. Though I'm a little disappointed those BTS images wee all there was to it and Valkyrie's costume really is that plain, even if it did ditch the dumb steel ring boobcones.
Who has time to actually develop their own opinion when that's time that can be spent organizing an angry mob and being indignant?
My various fanfics.
