Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Seriously. The drama between Steve and Bucky is so strong in that movie that it even bleeds over to Tony. It doesn't matter whose side you're on, Civil War will break your heart.
"He's my friend." "...so was I."

Because there was a side discussion that a story doesn't need death to be impactful
Posting this video, not just because of catharsis, but also because it addresses two of the most common complaints about Civil War's plot.
1. Why was there conveniently a camera at the Starks' assassination? Because Howard was driving to a government facility to deliver his prototype superserum.
2. Why didn't Zemo just send Tony the footage of Bucky killing his parents? Because Zemo had just gotten it by the time Cap and Tony arrived.
Though he made some mistakes himself with his nitpicks...Sam actually kicks the two guys and then kicks one of those two guys again, so he takes out two, not three like he says. And Zemo is talking that slowly because he actually don't speak any Russian and has to make sure that he is pronouncing the words correctly. We see him train it earlier in the movie, there is no way that he can just rush this.
But there is really something very satisfying whenever Cinemasins gets called out on his BS.

Yeah, I really dislike Cinema Sins ever since their Tangled video. Total BS to fill the time. And has the audacity to not make the video boring to watch.
So am I the only one that never really got into the "so was I" line? I feel like I'm some kind of soulless monster for having the reaction, every time I hear it, of "No you weren't." I never get the feeling that Movie Steve and Movie Tony are the buddies Civil War wants me to believe they are. 90 percent of their time shared onscreen is either passive aggressive or outright antagonistic.
My various fanfics.*shrugs* Some of my truest friends are the ones I've fought the most with. And against.
Also there's something to be said about how Tony considers himself Steve's friend but Steve doesn't necessarily know it. They both take it for granted, in different ways— Steve thinks of Tony as a fellow soldier, a comrade, so he doesn't view his actions as a personal betrayal, while Tony has a lot of superficial charm but few true friends, and isn't very good at letting those few people know that they matter to him (see Pepper, Happy...uh, that's kind of it). It's that sense of alienation that lets this version of Tony get along so well with Bruce Banner, I think.
