Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'd mentioned Kim somewhere else when it was first said one of the main characters would be played by a former LOST star, but someone responded by saying he has a new pilot coming up so probably wouldn't be available.
And you know, Fake Mixed Race and all that.
For those who don't want to read the article:
- Eme Ikwuakor
is Gorgon.
- Isabelle Cornish
is Crystal.
- Mike Moh
is Triton.
- Sonya Balmores
is Auran.
- Ellen Woglom
is Undisclosed Character.
- And Lockjaw as himself.
Interestingly, I believe Auran comes from the more recent Inhuman comics by Charles Soule, while the rest are classic Inhumans characters.
Still though it makes me wonder if all the other castings show they're not opposed to doing the Race Lift for these previously white Inhuman characters in general why not do them for the main royal couple?
I can definitely get Medusa because her appearance basically is her huge red hair, and while red hair is a trait that definitely exists in other groups such as Southeast Asians, it's primarily assumed by just about everyone to be an Indo-European, mostly European, trait. But Black Bolt's appearance has never really been that iconic outside of the suit itself for it to matter what race he and his brother are.
Not really mad, especially since while I like Black Bolt he's never been the most engaging character to me. But it does seem like a lost opportunity for added visibility.

Honestly, same here. Unless the movie is about Inhumanity and set amidst a Mass Super-Empowering Event that paves the way for Phase 4 to deal with the aftermath, I don't think they could manage an interesting enough story with the royal family to get me to watch that wouldn't be better suited to Black Panther. And it's looking more and more like that isn't going to be the case.

When it comes right down to it, Hollywood is fine with any number of supporting characters being any number of races as long as the main characters are white.
Marvel Race Lifting their main characters is rare in the first place.

100 Character Names in the Model of Blackagar Boltagon.
My favorite is "Rocketagar Raccoonagon."
It's also hilarious that they have both "Medusa" (living hair, makes sense) and "Gorgon" (goat legs, doesn't make sense) as names.

Not really, no. The specific categories for comic-to-screen adaptations include pretty much everything as a matter of formality (since on any given year you don't know how many comic book movies or TV shows will actually be released), but not the acting, directing, writing or technical categories, hence Margot Robbie being the only DC actress to get nominated for anything and neither Zack Snyder or David Ayer getting nominations in the directing or writing categories.
