Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Weren't they saying that the first movie would have Thanos as main character and/or protagonist? If that's the case, it could end with him defeating them and either getting the power he seeks or getting extremely close to victory.
Especially if the Avengers defeated by him in Infinity War are the ones who don't have movies coming, while the others who will appear between 1 and 2 retreat to protect Earth (IE, continue their movie series). Infinity War ends with Thanos defeating the original Avengers and scattering them to the winds, their fates uncertain. The other heroes continue on, unsure of their fates - though Captain Marvel is probably going to have cosmic stuff in it, so they won't be totally in the dark. Movie 2 has the originals return, bring everyone together, and strike back.

I think someone mentioned it in passing but what if "Part 2" is an approximation of Secret Wars. If Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet he could easily fill the role of The Beyonder. It would have some synergy too, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Makes sense to me. And I've already been suspecting that the Infinity War would introduce the Venom symbiote in lieu of its comic origin without having it brought to Earth with a meteor or stow away on a returning space shuttle like in prior adaptations.

They were never shy about it being an ongoing story. I think they went so far as to say Winter Soldier, Civil War and Avengers 3 & 4 could almost be seen as a quadrilogy. They're just trying to ensure both films stand on their own as separate films, as opposed to say, the Hobbit trilogy or the Divergent finale, where it was effectively one movie that was spread across multiple installments because money.

I like that the movie makes time for the Guardians to go camping. Seems like there's a lot to see and do in this movie, little character beats like these.
That thing about Secret Wars sound pretty great. There've been a few hints in Homecoming about other universes, and it'd be a great way to open the door to recasting and whatnot with an in-universe (ironically) explanation.

They already hinted that the Venom symbiote is being introduced in the postcredits for Got G 2. That's why Spider-Man has been involved with their filming.
I dunno how to explain it. Something about the delivery of the jokes and how it's kinda lowbrow. Leans a bit heavily into lolsorandumb and using crassness as the punchline which is weird because I don't generally have problems with vulgarity in general, and I'm fine with the humor in most of the other films aside from AOU and parts of the first Avengers. At least GOTG is good about the more serious moments which is what keeps me from disliking the first film entirely.

Maybe Infinity Wars will be the battle against Thanos, and the next film will be the aftermath: specifically, all these Infinity Stones laying around, everybody now knows they're incredibly powerful, and a mad scramble to get them. If that means stabbing an ally in the back -or shooting him in the face- that's a small price to pay.
Indeed, the focus might be on each individual and why they want the stones, or maybe just one of them. I'm sure we could all name at least one person that would want the Time stone in order to go back and stop something from happening.Or the Soul stone to bring someone back from the dead (or so they think; I suspect it wouldn't be nearly that straightforward and probably wouldn't work).
They already know how powerful each of them are. Everyone was fine with Strange claiming the time stone and Vision keeping the mind stone. They gave thor the Tesseract quite happily. Ronan demonstrated the power stone quite easily and the Guardians handed it to the Nova Corps.
No-one is presently sitting around using an infinity gems as a paperweight.
And no we couldn't considering that the MCU has basically completely written Uncle Ben out of the story and Spidey is looking to Tony Stark for moral guidance. Which is kinda like looking to Donald Trump for guidance in...well, anything really.

The impression I get is that the Infinity Stones have power far beyond what the heroes are able to unlock or wield, and they're more likely to destroy themselves and each other than attain godlike powers. The Aether and the Orb (Reality and Power, respectively) nearly kill their hosts, or close to it
I can get not liking the humour in Guardians, but it works for me. It suits the somewhat stunted personal growth of the characters, which is what you'd expect given they're all basically criminals before deciding they want to save the galaxy..
I think it was just a general comment. These characters have all lost someone, most of them at least one parent. Wanda lost her twin brother, and that within fairly recent memory.

Even better.
