Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Kind of a misleading title....the gist of the article is that Sca Jo said in an interview that she and Kevin Feige meet about a Black Widow movie and are in agreement that one could work, but they first have to figure out where to fit it in the slate, both because of the Marvel slate and her own commitments.
You can read this two ways: It is either a polite way of saying "yeah, we won't rule it out, but don't hold your breath" or it actually a cause for celebration, since beforehand it wasn't really clear if Sca Jo would even want to star in one (she has always been very tight-lipped about her contract), and now she committed to the idea. Realistically speaking, even if they do decide to do a Black Widow movie, I wouldn't want to know anything about it before I have seen the sequel to Infinity War because I really, really don't want to know which characters will be back for sure.
Would it need to be a superhero spy movie? Guardians wasn't much of a superhero movie either, just more of a sci-fi action film.
The best time for a superhero spy movie would've been years ago, either just before or just after Winter Soldier. Now, Black Widow's one of the most visible and famous people on the planet, so unless they pull her as James Bond (which would be cool, but hasn't been her forte in the MCU thus far) an espionage movie with her wouldn't work as well as it would have before.
Her being a semi-fugitive after Civil War would be a good set-up for one, but given how long movies take to make if they're just talking about it now it's safe to say that plot point is going to be resolved by the time a Black Widow movie gets made.
Or in short, lots of squandered opportunities.
Honestly, James Bond mostly seems to deal with villains who know that he is a secret agent, so I don't think that Natasha not exactly be able to go undercover in another identity is an issue if they handle it right. If she works with Sharon, she can be the distraction and Sharon the one who does the undercover stuff, while Maria provides the technical back-up. And if they want to make me really happy, they will also have Fitzsimmons there as tech support......
I'm a bit mixed on the idea of a Black Widow solo film.
On the one hand, I like her character and would love to see more of her.
On the other hand, I feel like she works best when we don't know everything she's up to; when she's sneaking around between scenes. Winter Soldier did that best, with stuff like her getting ahold of that flash drive Cap hid in the vending machine, or replacing one of the World Council members.
Being the movie's lead would make that a lot harder.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
